Unless it was NIB & unfired, no. I still wouldn't go over $1K, even then. Granted a Rem 600 anything is going to be a rare commodity, but even a pristine M600 in 35Rem (rarest) won't usually fetch that price.
Besides, a 6.5 Mag in a carbine is just a waste of powder and too much d@mn noise &...
I'll preface this by saying I haven't hunted with commercial ammo for over 30 yrs, except with a couple of very finicky rifles, so I play on the safe side of Murphy.
If I'm going to get back home the same night, it's just twice what the magazine holds. Never needed it, but....
A day, or two...
Just me, personal choice entirely, but I'd stay away from a shoulder shot with a .308 150BT, unless it had some slowdown time. I've never seen, read any evidence that the 150 was one of the 'tougher' BT's such as the .308 180gr, or a .284 150gr.
I've had my best DRT shots by hitting high in the...
Gonna do Ohio again this year, so that pretty well limits the selection. 7/08...out. 338 Fed....out. 7RM....out.
That leaves the 44Mag, with Plain Jane 240gr Win white box ammo.
Nothing sexy, nor exciting, but they do work.
My 7mm/08 is finicky with the powder it wants depending on bullet weight. RL-19 shines with a 120, or a 150, but Varget has to go with the 140's. Great group. Do you know what velocity you're getting ?
Doesn't really matter, no whitetail will ever walk away from a good shot with that load...
I went to the 150 BT, for my 7RM, when Nosler dumped the 162 Solid Base ( I loved those SB's). I just switched bullets and kept everything else the same. I was getting around 3050fps with a healthy charge of H4831.
Deer kept a'dropping very well Thank You !
It's also an outstanding substitute...
It kinda pisses me off to see a deal like this......cuz I have so many SPS bullets on-hand right now it's sure to become part of the inheritance to my family !!!
I'll start this out by stating I have 300 rds of 140 TSX's on hand for my 7/08. That's pretty much equal to your 7X57. Why do I have them ? Cuz I got 'em for $15 a box, period. But I don't think the 140gr is the optimal mono weight for that class of cartridge, including the 280.
Mono's work...
Weird F&G law. Scotland county, NC only allows a 22 caliber bore for rifle deer hunting. I hope some of those boys see your results, because that bullet will be a freezer filler, for sure!
It's not in production any more, but my 'All Time Fave' was the 162gr Solid Base. I could get 2960fps out of my 7RM, with H4831, and it was a 1st shot knock down DRT round every time !
If I had chose now, it would be the 140gr .284 AB, the 180gr .308 BT and the 200gr .338 AB. (all in 308 class...
I tried 4064, Blc-2, 4320, but finally got an accurate load with 40.5 gr of RL-15. Put a 180BT length wise through my biggest whitetail to date @ 125yds. Then added another dozen to the freezer at ranges from 10yds to way out there.
Good luck and good shooting.
Just wondering if you're 'Dragging Wood' ? The cushion portion of the second joint of your trigger finger making contact with the stock. Depending on the trigger contact with the fore part of your trigger finger, you may be nudging the rifle off w/o realizing it.
As good a guess as any w/o...
I'm using the XTP's in 380 and they shoot very well. Not a single FTF, FTE, or FTC. I would really like to get my hands on some Precision One ammo though and see how they run. Ammo Quest ranked them as #1 for CC in the 380.
I started with my Dad when I was around 9 yrs old. It was really more of him taking me for a stroll through the outdoors, than any real type of hunting.
Later, around when I was 11, we actually got into bunnies with me using his Dad's Savage 22/410.
But the truth is I really learned how to...
Many, Many, Many moon's ago (my 1st 7mm) I had pretty good results with IMR 4320 & the 139BT. Don't see why it wouldn't work just as well today. Shouldn't be any problem to get 2700+fps and not have to dump a bucket load of powder into the case.
I've been reloading off the kitchen table for so long I can't remember. I just got a piece of 2X10 about 18" long, screwed the press onto it and got a couple of deep C-Clamps. Just pad the clamps & board, so they don't mar the table, and have at it ! I've even been known to use the same set up...
