Charlie, I remember Scotty and Aleena discussing this somewhere, only it seems like they were discussing Woodleigh and Norma Oryx bullets, hopefully one of them or both of them will see your post. That is a sweet old caliber Charlie and a very nice set up. Best of luck working up your loads
I originally was to go alone for a lion and plains game hunt. If I was successful I had every intention of having something mounted. I made a completely different decision. I elected to have my teenage son hunt with me instead of an expensive mount. We do have horns, a hide, and a picture...
My dad told me the same thing cheyenne.
Shoot off muzzle caps, finger cots, tape, condoms, balloon s, we have used and tried them all at one time or another, but we always use something--most often just tape. Even when we were in W. Texas we used something as the humidity and sand or dirt...
Yes sir, it is a great book. The Silence of the North is the one I think you are referring to. If it is, Cheyenne ( yukon huntress ) recommended this book to my daughter and my daughter did enjoy the book. My teenage daughter wrangles horses in the summer for outfitters, including shoeing...
Pat, I am probably in about the same place as you are in regards to the Wolf. I certainly do sympathize with the fellows who have seen lower amounts of game in their area, as well as the ranchers who have lost cattle.
When we lived in Texas a lot of people disliked the cougars, and we had...
Hodgeman, I am not trying to be argumentative, but I do not think the 270 is the best gun for this trip. Especially if your only taking one gun. You are flying half way around the world with the family to possibly make a once in a lifetime hunt. Plus even if you wound an animal and never...
The two guns I took was the 30-06 and the 375 H/H. If you can only take one I would take the 375 and rent a 270, 308, 30-06 from the P.H. for the wife and son. Or take the 300 with two different loads and rent a 375 from the P/H, at least for the eland hunt. when i first started planning...
I enjoyed reading this thread and remember my grandfather and father never dressing, as we do now.
I was also hoping that we would hear from Yukon huntress in regards to this thread, as I know that her and her family still live off of the land and they have all her life. She has told me about...
many, many years ago my father warned me before I left for spring break, that I should be aware of the dangers of drugs, beer and the women that I meet while on spring break. I avoided the drug scene, but did have a beer or three and met my wife there, I guess avoiding one out of three isn't...
You are correct sir.
Guy, my attempt was to help a fellow hunter understand and perhaps even help him to put his mind at rest ( as well as his body at night ) and to continue to enjoy the mountains he has enjoyed all his life.
Any wild animal should be given the respect it deserves, as under...
Guy, I would not lose any sleep worrying about a pack of Wolves attacking you while your sleeping, Pun intended.
We, my mother, wife, daughter, son and myself spend a considerable amount of time in the wilderness and none of us have any fear of being attacked by wolves while we are asleep or...
Scotty, 200 gr PT someone else in the family does the reloading, but I believe I am correct. 64.5 IMR 4350.
When I spoke to him about the wsm before mom traded her 30-30 in for the 325, he told me he had a 350 at one time and thought it was a good caliber as well, but apparently someone...
I have seen quite a few in use. We have a 7 and 325 in the family, both Browning BLR rifles. Our daughter owns the 7 and it is her favorite rifle and my mother uses the 325. she used a 30-30 for years and is very pleased with the 325 WSM.
Thanks a lot cheyenne, I just spit coffee all over the computer lol I agree with Dub, I am out, I cant top this
Could one of the moderators please delete the pictures of the laughing @$#%^%$.
Dr Mike, I think you make an excellent point. What one dont have he cant miss. Dr. mike did you...
A, as you know I have a 416 Rigby and I see Paul just posted, plus you and Jim and if you loan charlie one, we are already five. And believe me, right now, Tahiti sounds fantastic--when do we leave!!
Exactly!
And Charlie, you may not be in the club any more but there are several of us around. I for one would love for someone to show me that the 340 Bee does not shoot flatter, faster, further and hit harder at any distance than the 35 Whelen. I am not drinking that cup of kool aid. We...
Charlie, Cheyenne
All I can add is when you have rifles like the 340 and 375, you dont need to make up mottos or jingles or some other method of selling yourself or others that what your using is actually a good caliber. But I feel since we are all hunters we most stick together, so we need to...
Aleena, thank you. The 300 H/H why am I not surprised. My wife and I also want to thank you for all the information you pm d to us. You have obtained a trip to New Zealand for me, by showing my wife how great the visit can be for her.
A, I think the State of California went onto the island...
LOL well played scotty
Actually I was wondering how he got anything with someone asking him. Are you sure you put in a ball and patch, dont you think we should have been more to the right of him, for christ sales, shoot, he is not going to stand there forever, by the way did you bury the...
