JD - How right you are. My e-tips are a few years old. I looked at the F-tips (not typing error) that I bought at SPS last summer. They are 7mm 152 gr with a black tip and they have a relief band.
The SPS guy said the F-tips were for a major ammo manufacture.....wonder who that would...
Listening to the Hornady folks and reading the Barnes data, the relief rings on their mono bullets reduces barrel cooper fouling.
What has Nosler done with their E-tips that they don't need relief rings.?
Thanks
Had my M48 barrel cut and threaded at 20 inches. Now the suppressor balances well and is not overly long carrying in the field.
First range trip was using a variety of powders, looking for velocity in the shortened barrel.
Bullet choice is 150 gr E-tip
Initial powders were 4350, 4831...
Picked up barrel today. Cute little guy.
The gunsmith suggested shooting in low light with various powders to ensure all the powder burn is within the barrel as to not foul the suppressor too much.
Off spring bear hunting tomorrow for a few days.....the sun is out and the bears will be...
Thanks. I have used RL-22 in th past too.
Dropped of the barrel action for cutting and threading today. Will get it back next week.
Have 160 ABs loaded with H4831SC, RL-22 and 7828 SSC then some 150 Etips with 7828 (which shot great with the 24 inch barrel)
Barnes's data show impressive speed with Ramshot Hunter. Ramshot doesn't list in their own data (electronic and verified with phone call)
I found 160 PT with 58 gr of Hunter. Was going to substitute a 160 AB.
Anyone used? input compared to H4831 and 7828 (my stand bye)
Cutting my M48 to 20...
140's was my thought too. I know the 120's are a tough bullet, but the carried momentum and energy is nice.
If you ever wonder what a Tikka with a 17 inch barrel looks like......(M48 280 AI in the back). Barks without the suppressor, but awesome suppressed.
My 17 inch Tikka barrel is back. Shot some great groups, now working on finding the right combination of bullet and powder
Stuff loads of Big Game group well.
120 gr BT @ 2825
140 gr BT @ 2700
Anticipated the velocity drop, so not worried about that as the rifle handles great with the can...
Barrel is scheduled to FINALLY get back to me this week. Tikka 7mm-08 cut to 17 inches. Ordered a couple more suppressors, one is the Nosler 30K. Held it yesterday at the FFL, excited to see how it will preform on this barrel....hopefully my suppressor approval time won't be too long...
Seems so many of us were influenced by the early writers....JOC.
Makes me wonder in the age of the internet, YouTube videos, etc....some many people listing content, some good, some pretty bad....what will influence this generation.
The PRC calibers have certainly made an impact, but...
Tikka's are 22 from the factory. Didn't chrono before.
Agreed that no game, mostly deer and bear, will know the difference.
With a suppressor, the barrel length will be essentially back to factory length, but quite and less recoil.
This is truly one of those, the rifle is sitting in the...
Having a Tikka 7mm-08 cut and threaded at 17 inches. Want to play with a short barrel with a suppressor.
I understand some cartridges benefit from AI (280AI') and some it just doesn't matter.
Planning on losing about 25 FPS with the barrel cut. What about trying to offset this with an AI...
I have also enjoyed the 338 Federal for years. Found the 185 TSX with a stiff load of TAC shoot very well
in my Sako and Tikka. The chrono shows 2745 fps.
Multiple black bears take with this load and they tend to not go very far!!!!
Just this month, I have been experimenting with 200 gr AB...
