Even though he is really close to me I might have to make a contraption like that to try. I have a shop full of CNC machines so I'm sure I could figure something out. I've always felt my stock fit isn't perfect with my Benelli SBE3's (28, 20, and 12ga) and Retay Masai Mara (20ga). I shoot...
That is a crazy jump in group size between nodes. If your brass can handle it I'd try higher to see if you hit another node. A lot of times the higher nodes wont shoot as well as the lower nodes.
I'm with you a bit on the mentoring thing Jim. I think I have more fun taking my kids and their friends as I do hunting with my hunting buddies anymore. Eventually maybe all this point buying will pay off but honestly I'd rather my kids have a chance at a really big bull or buck. My kids have...
I'm going to put my kids in for Coues deer in AZ, youth elk, deer and antelope in UT, deer/elk/antelope in OR, points in WY, along with deer, elk (extra cow and bull), and antelope here in ID. As busy as their soccer is I doubt we will get out for bear this spring but I might try to take them...
Yep it is. Centerline rifles require expensive permits to own. The guide does shoot PRS style rimfire events but your shooting up in trees and I would bet its cheaper and quieter to use airguns plus your often shooting around businesses or houses. I bet I shot 400+ pellets in 2 days. We only...
They are tons of fun to shoot. It's my new spring shooting event. Next year I'll take the kids for two days and hit up my uncle in GA on the way home to have my kids thin his deer herd. That is a pretty good week long trip.
I use MarineTex as well. JB Weld is more brittle and thin so it tends to run more. I prefer thicker bedding compounds. Acraglass is good but not at tough as MarineTex.
In general there isn't a downside to it, if it isn't bedded under tension, and there is a potential for a decent upside. The upside depends on the quality of the inletting prior to bedding.
The guide ate the guinea fowl that night. He said they are really good. The first day we shot 60-70 iguanas and the guinea fowl. The second day we shot between 100 and 120. It's hard to keep track exactly because a bunch of them are impossible to retrieve. Both pictures have 38 in them.
My buddy and I hunted just to the east of Tucson 5-6 years ago for Coues. I think it's unit 34. The day we got there was 80, the next day was windy and 50 ish with snow that night. I think we drew the same year we put in for the November season. The December rut season use to take several years...
I open all my brakes .025" over bore on 1 piece brakes and .030" over on 2 piece brakes. I use to run brakes .020" over and had issues with accuracy from some people. Not all muzzle threads are straight to the bore. There is no added accuracy by going so tight. I use pin gauges to check the bore...
There are many smiths that can spin up a good barrel, and probably faster than Bartlein. I didn't know Krieger stopped doing installs but don't let that discourage you.
xphunter makes a valid point and I totally agree. Most people struggle shooting the bigger magnums well at long range and bad techniques, flinching, etc are amplified laying in the dirt in awkward shooting positions. If you feel like you struggle a bit with the recoil of your rifle then I'd look...
Jim makes some valid points about testing the accuracy of your rifle from the bench. Then you can see if you can duplicate it laying on your belly. If you can't then it's probably a shooting technique issue. He is also right about 600 and in being relatively easy compare to past that but the...
