Other than pictures of my family, this one is my favorite.

That's an awesome photograph. I had two sub-adults run across the road in front of me last fall elk hunting in northeastern Oregon last October. It happened so fast that I didn't have a chance to snap a photo. It was something special to experience.

Bear Tracks on this morning's hike

It certainly got my heart rate into the cardio-fitness zone quickly.

Bear Tracks on this morning's hike

Very cool. A couple of years ago I was out hiking with my lab. I bumped a nice sized blacktail deer but couldn't tell if it was a buck or doe so I tried to follow it to get a better look. I came around the corner and walked right into a black bear feeding on some grass. My dog never noticed...

    Wyoming 2018

Yeah, I just did a quick back of the napkin calculation on a 500 mile trip pulling a trailer. I don't like the idea of a $250.00 gas bill but I am cautiously optimistic that this is just a short-term phenomena. God willing and the river don't rise.

    Wyoming 2018

I took a couple of pronghorn - a 15" buck and a nice doe on a couple of ranches near Kaycee, Wyoming back in 2012. I shot the doe on opening day in 83 degree temperatures. Two days later I shot the buck in 25 degrees, 30 mph winds and blowing snow. I'm hoping to go back to Wyoming for another...

    Lever Action Rifles

That goes for me too. I used to love to shoot my .338 Win Mag and had a friend of mine who would tell me that he went through the magnum phase but preferred shooting his 22 Hornet. A few years ago I finally understood what he meant. I still use my .300 WSM for elk but prefer hunting with my...

    Lever Action Rifles

The BLR is a lightweight rifle (6 3/4 lbs for the .300 WSM) - one chambered in .338 Win Mag might be rather sporty to shoot.

    Cheap Rifles.

Howa started marketing their rifles in the US with Smith & Wesson in the early 80's. Then in the late 80's they switched to Mossberg until Mossberg came out with their own rifles some time in the 90's. They also were producing the barrels and actions for Weatherby's Vanguard series. I have a...

    Lever Action Rifles

I even gave my son my .30-06 and my .338 Win Mag to sweeten the deal. No dice. It worked out in the end...he gave me his West Point graduation pistol from the Colt Custom Shop.

    Cheap Rifles.

I bought it in 2009. I put a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 BDC scope and Rock Mount bipod on it before giving it to her. I don't know if she uses it much but that one session at the range made her fall in love with that rifle.

As near as I can tell, they are impossible to undo.

    Cheap Rifles.

Bought my daughter a Marlin XS-7 chambered in .243 Winchester when she was in college. Once I sighted it in she put 5 rounds into the bullseye at 100 yards that could be covered with a quarter. I paid just over $200 new for it - best gun for the money I ever bought.

Need for Speed? Let's look at the 204 Ruger... :)

Built an AR a few years ago for fun and chambered it in .204 Ruger. I used a Shilen stainless steel match barrel and bolt that is supposed to hold 1/2 MOA @ 400 yards. It is fun to shoot. I started loading the 40 grain V-Max but switched to the Barnes 26 grain Varmint Grenade during COVID...

    Ruger introduces their second Marlin!

Skinner sights are adjustable for both elevation windage but their elevation travel distance is not very far. I have had two sets of Skinner sights - one on my Marlin 336 CS that worked well with the factory installed Marlin front sight; the other was on a Browning BLR Lightweight '81 that I...

    Lever Action Rifles

I had a Marlin 336 CS chambered in .30-30 that I gave to my son. I offered to trade him anything in my gun safe to get it back a few years ago and he turned me down flat. I have since gone out and picked up two Browning BLR's - a Lightweight Takedown in .300 WSM and a Lightweight '81 in .308...

Cast Performance 260gr WFNGC for the .44

I have used 22.5 grains of W296 with that bullet and found it shot well in my Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk with a 5 1/2" barrel. I have since moved up to the 310 grain bullet for a little more punch. I had a hard time finding load data for the 260 grain bullet. I found load data for a 265...
