    Joined the Whelen club yesterday!

Congrats on the Whelen purchase. I've had mine for a couple months now. I'm still working on wringing out the accuracy, but the thing sure is going to be a hammer if the water jug tests are any indication. As far as scopes go, I'd go with the Minox. I put the same Leupold you are considering...

    270 Winchester

If you're not comfortable going over book max, then I certainly see no need to do it. You're getting adequate velocity and if the accuracy is there you should be fine. That said, the book maxes are really an approximation, usually a conservative one. I use a Hornady manual primarily and I...

.270 wsm 140gr Accubond & 150gr Norma Oryx vs the jugs..

Very nice test. Thanks for sharing. It's impressive how much that Oryx expanded, held together and penetrated. Both bullets should definitely do the trick on just about anything you choose to use them on.

.300 Win Mag vs. the jugs

It was shot at 25 yds. It definitely put the bullet to the test. I expected it to hold together a little bit better, but what was left of the core and the base of the jacket almost made it out of the 4th jug. Seeing what these do at 30-06 velocities will give me an idea of how they will do as...

.300 Win Mag vs. the jugs

Here's a video from today's experimentation. Hornady 180 Interlock SP at 3k. I'm going to load some up in my .30-06 to see what they do with a little less velocity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTbGHYisC2I&feature=youtube_gdata

    .280

Stumbled across this on a local forum: http://www.huntingpa.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2645184#Post2645184 I thought some of the .280 and Winnie aficionados here would enjoy seeing it. Pretty decent piece of wood and a fine chambering. I can remember this being for sale...

You guys have got to see this!!!

Wow, by my calculations, he is saving enough doing this to pay himself 12 cents an hour. I know components were scarce for a while. I don't think there was a time I couldn't get my hands on primers for $5/100 or less though. Even at that, he'd only be paying himself 37 cents an hour... for what...

    .358" 250 Speer HotCor

Everything you hear about the big Hot Cors seems to be good. I may have to stock up on them as the Hot Cor is said to be on its way out in favor of the Deep Curl. I don't think they're making the Deep Curl in .358" though, so maybe the Hot Cors will be around a while?

    .284 154 SST

It's a load I'm very happy with for my .280. When I developed this load, Jim Bires ran QuickLoad for me at .270 pressures. I got to the velocity I'm at pretty easily working within those parameters.

    .277 130 Accubond

I'm really happy with this performance. The Accubond seems to be the bullet for high velocity impacts.

    .277 130 Ballistic Tip

This was a pretty extreme test for a Ballistic Tip. I think 3200 fps is the max recommended impact velocity and this should have been right there.

    Tested some bullets today

I'm impressed by it. I understand why Scotty, et al., think so highly of the Whelen.

    Tested some bullets today

Fun it is, Guy... and addictive. I keep thinking about which bullets I'll be trying out next. I was impressed with the Accubond.

    Tested some bullets today

Thanks, guys. I'm happy to share my results. I do believe I'm addicted to blasting water jugs now. That's my father-in-law that you can hear chuckling in the video. He shot the .280 (the one I didn't get any video on). It was the first time he's ever shot a centerfire rifle.

    .358" 250 Speer HotCor

250 Speer HC @ 2580 fps: 171.3 gr retained (68.5%), expanded to .599", recovered in 7th jug (and darned near made it into the 8th). I guess there's not too much to say about this one. It seems to transfer plenty of energy and penetrates very very well. There's not too much there not to like...

    .284 154 SST

This was a water jug test done at 25 yds with my .280 Rem. 154 SST @2950 fps: 92.9 gr retained (60.3%), expanded to .667", recovered in 4th jug. I've seen performance like this before with SSTs. They seem to separate but stay with each other, if that makes sense. The core was found with the...

    .277 130 Accubond

This was a water jug test done at 25 yds with my .270 Win. 130 NAB @3200 fps: 84.6 gr retained (65.1%), expanded to .654", recovered in 4th jug. I'm happy with this performance. Great expansion, good weight retention and decent penetration. It should deliver the goods on just about any shot...

    .277 130 Ballistic Tip

This was a water jug test done at 25 yds with my .270 Win. 130 NBT @ 3250 fps: 62.9 gr retained (48.4 %), expanded to .777", recovered in 3rd jug. It isn't quite the performance I want out of a bullet, although I'm sure it is more than capable of delivering some impressive kills. I thinks it...

    Tested some bullets today

Here is a video from today. I ran the 250 Speer HotCor (35 Whelen), 130 NBT (.270), 130 NAB (.270) and 154 SST (.280) into water jugs. All bullets were recovered. The Whelen definitely owned the show. There is no footage of the 154 SST on the video. The camera guy (that would be me) screwed up...

    pre-64 Win M70 mount questions

I think the Talley numbers would be 730704 for lows and 740704 mediums for a pre 64 magnum action and 30 mm scope.
