HAWK, congrats on picking up a piece of history that you'll be able to use and enjoy. I think you'll find it's a fun cartridge to load for, you'll have a decent selection of bullets to choose from and you'll be able to tackle most any animal in North America.
I love loading for my 8x57 and I...
My dad, has a 6.5x55 and about 5 years ago, he bought me a 7x57. Flash forward a few years ago and I decided I had to have a 8x57. So, I set out to buy one in a modern action because I wanted to load for it like it was meant to be. I wound up buying a Sauer 100 Ceratech in the ol' 8x57.
I...
Shade Tree, I typically clean my rifles after a day at the range. A typical shooting day is usually anywhere from 15 to 30 shots. I never thought about the first shot from the clean barrel being slower. Thanks for your input
Sorry I forgot to mention that in my post.
The jug test was conducted at a distance of 50yds. I tried the test at 100yds but the bullet kept coming out of the side of one of the jugs and getting lost in the dirt.
The SST Penetrated 4 jugs and was recovered in the 5th jug.
Those of you that use a chrono in your load development or just general shooting, do you tend to notice that your first shot speed is much lower than each of the following shots?
My first shot from a cold clean bore is always much slower than the next shot even if I wait several minutes...
I got an email from Midsouthshooterssupply.com today with the same info about Pre Orders for the new Hornady Manual. The email said to expect shipping in June. The thing I like about Hornady is they actually include data for new powders that were released in between their last manual and the...
I worked up a load for my 8x57 using the Hornady 170gr SST and I wanted to see how it would expand so I conducted a jug test. I recovered the bullet and weighed and measured the bullet post recovery. Load used was as follows.
Hornady 170gr SST
54grs Winchester 748 ball powder
Remington 9 1/2...
Your gonna like the 280 Ackley.
Unless you already have it, and its entirely your choice, but Id stay away from the Nosler brass. Your fireformed R-P 280 brass will serve you better. If your going to be purchasing it brand new, then Id strongly recommend picking up some Peterson. Its equal...
Ive shot 4451 in the 6.5creed and my 7x57 and both loadings performed great. I did NOT see any evidence of copper eliminating from the 4451 but you may or may not in your rifles.
4831 has been good to me in a 270 and Ive also used it for 140 to 150gr bullets in my 280 Ackley.
I'm looking to buy a used copy of Barnes #4 manual if anyone has one they don't like or aren't using anymore. Im aware that I can find most data I may need from their website but I'd rather have a print copy to add to my shelf. If anyone has one they'd be willing to part with let me know...
I have one of the sauer 100XT in 9.3x62, and it has been extremely accurate. They are really nice guns, and apparently have great barrels.
Id totally buy another one. This one has been accurate and its a breeze to carry in the deer woods. I carrried it hog hunting one day and walked 13.8...
I got my first dose of Pfizer on Jan 20th (I work in a Federal Prison) and just received my 2nd dose on Feb 9th.
First dose only thing I noticed was a REALLY, sore arm. 2nd dose was no site injection soreness or any other side effects. No chills or fever or flu like symptoms for either dose.
Thats cool that you got the old rust bucket to shoot again. Im sure your cousin was happy.
My rifle is a Sauer 100 Ceratech and it also is twisted for 1 in 9 1/4". I recently did some load development for a 200gr Accubond and it literally shot 3 in 1 hole with both powders I tried. I have...
Been working on finding a load for my 8x57 with the Hornady 170gr SST. I tested this bullet previously but I have well over 200 of these so I figured Id try some other powders and seating depths.
I loaded these today with Winchester 748 and a Remington 9.5 L.R. primer and I seated them at...
Im not trying to highjack your post, but I have some pictures I thought Id share in regards to the 150gr ELD-x.
I loaded them in my 280 AI this past deer season and was able to take 3 deer with them.
The first 2 were bang flop DRT kills that were 55 and 125 yards respectively. The last deer...
I bought some Ramshot BigGame to try in my 8x57. I havent tried it with a variety of bullets yet, but the ones Ive used BigGame with have shot great. This load in the picture is a consistent producer with the Speer 170gr Semi SP.
At some point down the road I plan on shooting some BigGame in...
The 7mm 165gr game changers aren't new for 2021, I've got a box of 100 on my bench shelf. I haven't shot them yet but plan on using them in my 280AckImp. Ill likely start with Reloader 23 , 26, H1000, or IMR 7977 and I'll be using data for a 168gr pill to start.
Supposedly Sierra is releasing...
I have made a good effort the past couple of years to stock up on components because I had an inkling it was going get crazy during the election cycle. I also bought several powders / bullets / primers that I just wanted to try in a given rifle.
Once I develop a load with any given bullet /...
