    New shooter.

Ain't that the truth... magnetic north keeps moving I hear. No complaints from here. They went through almost 1000 rds. of rimfire & about 9 or 10 boxes of 9mm, 44s... mostly Spl. but a few Magnums, & 45ACP during the week. The steel critters took a terrific beating, all 3 generations are...

    H414 discontinued

I believe it's the same as W-760 & Hodgdon is marketing Winchester powders, so it saves duplication of effort. What's the H-powder that equals W-231? HP38 or something like that? Is it still available? If I were to guess H-110 (W-296) & BLC-2 (W-748) may disappear as well.

    New shooter.

They left yesterday. It's quiet around here today... almost too quiet. All 3 rimfires malfunctioned. The middle age one I believe may have a weak firing pin spring causing misfires too often. The bolt is soaking in G96. The old one is having magazine jamming problems, I wonder if Numrich is open...

    New shooter.

The kids are visiting this week & my grand daughter went to the range yesterday. Familiarization on targets then the steel animals out to 50 yds. She was afraid of recoil from watching too much TV, but cant wait to go burn up some more rimfire. Maybe tomorrow. Got her to shoot the 9mm once. She...

    Rifle Cost/Worth

A rifle, or anything for that matter, is only worth what someone will actually pay for it. Price some OOP books on Amazon for a good laugh. It has to be computer generated & someone forgot to put the decimal point in between dollars & cents, because a real person cant be that ignorant.

    Price Gouging?

I saw an 8# jug of H4350 for $254 at a shop up the line a ways a few weeks ago. He also had a brick of LR primers but would only sell 200 per customer at $5/100. Not much else there except for the odd pistol bore brush or used & abused scopes & slings. There were a few overpriced used rifles...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

Well, I shot the 140/RL26 last Friday. These were Nosler 2nds with gray tips & a cannelure. Got to about 2800fps with 47 gr. & seated to just fit the magazine. Didn't bother to figure the jump yet, but they shot about 3/4" or so for 4 shot groups. Loaded another batch at different OALs to see if...

    Pairs

I had a pair of 35 Whelen Classics. One got rechambered to 358 Norma. Both wear Leupold 1.5-5 Vari-X IIIs in Leupold bases & low rings. The Norma kept losing the front sight hood while bench testing, so it sits loose in the shooting box. Other than that it's hard to tell them apart except the...

Sunday reloading. What are you loading?

I may try 17 in the 338-06 but need more experience working with it... or a Quickload... for a starting charge. If I can get close to 2900 with accuracy with the 210s & 4350 I'll be happy. The little information that's out there is all over the place. I broke down & bought a 5#er of RL17. The...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

WHUT???? Heh... I worked on race car engines for a lot of years & muffs were just a pain & in the way. That & shooting pistol in the basement of the old police station could be why I cant carry on a conversation if a TV is on or there's other background noise. it was pretty handy when I was...

Sunday reloading. What are you loading?

Thanks Scotty, I was reading thru some old threads on here about your Newton & other 35 stuff. Thinking that's where I copied the QL with RL26 from. I'm also wondering about lighter bullets... 200s & 225s. Since the same powders as 35 Whelen (RL15, H4895, etc.) work so well with them, have you...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

Thanks Nimrod. I hope she enjoys it. Her mom used to pull the lever on the press for me when she was small & is a concealed carrier. No side mount at the gunshow, but there was this CZ 455 that called my name every time I walked by it. I fondled it once & it followed me home. The scope is...

Sunday reloading. What are you loading?

Too hot to range test yesterday, so I made up some of those 200 CT Silvertips in 338-06 Ackley with WW nickle 280 cases fireformed the week before. Trying the short-cut H4350 in this batch. They may not shoot, but they sure do look purdy. I tried the 280 brass to see if the new brass...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

What's with the can, man? Must have missed that particular info earlier. How much quieter is it? I was under the impression that the sonic crack was louder than the muzzle report. Old wives telling tales may not always be reliable? Yeah, I like all of my Ackleys, but I do push them hard. That's...

    RCBS summit.

Good question. I was looking at the Summit online. Not in person yet. I really like my Co-ax but it's a pain with the 2 magnums I have left due to shellholder size & opening height... also when needing to pull bullets. Then 223 shelholder size is different again with the Co-ax. I think newer...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

Nimrod, It was a successful day at the range yesterday. Wishing I had loaded some fouling shots, but 8 of the Hornady 129s went into .484" with the 1st 2 shots out of the group. The Sierra 130s did 9 into .660" with a flyer about 1/4" away. It could have been me. I cant get used to the heavier...

6.5 Creedmoor out of 20" barrel

It's been a while. Some more experiments with RL16 in various cartridges showed some promise, & I'm really liking 4451 too. It does nothing much that 4350 doesn't also do, but is a good alternate. ES & SD with several warm loads in 280 Rem. & 150s were single digit. Thanks to SJB358s post above...

    Zipped load data?

Unless you got about 500 or 1000 they'll probably shoot really well after you use 3/4 of them developing a load. Thinking there's still about 1/2 a box of the 50 gr. 22s somewhere around here from days of old before I kept load results other than scribbles on masking tape stuck to the ammo box...

    reloading for .222 rem

I will 2nd the IMR4198 & WW748 while adding RL7 or Accurate 2015 with 50 & 52 flatbases. With 53 gr bullets IMR3031 may work well. RP 7 1/2 or Fed. 205M primers made a difference in my rifle over other brands. A few other possibilities come to mind. Since it was someone else's rifle, has the...

Ever shoot a not so good target you felt good about?

Like you said... that's a deer at 200 yds in lousy conditions. Nothing to complain about there. Like all else, the only way to get really good at something is to do it. If you really want to drive yerself wild put out wind flags, even in your yard, & just watch them. Watch a benchrest match...
