Fantastic responses guys. The 6mm rem was a standout in my safe as a cartridge that really should be more popular. The 260Rem another that has seemingly been pushed aside, yet holds a sweet spot for me and has never let me down. It seems a lot of the cartridges mentioned have the remington name :-(
I used to use them, and now they won’t ship scopes to Australia. They were excellent when I caould access their range and prices were far better than I could buy locally.
The 270 was the natural progression for one of my sons. In centrefires, he started with a 223, graduated to a 243 and now shoots the 270. His first proper red stag was taken at 181 yards, took three steps and fell over. The rifle and cartridge inspire a lot of confidence in him which is half the...
RL26 in the 6mm Rem with 95 and 100 grain bullets is next level in my rifle. My son loves it in his 270 as well, but he can use H4813sc, the remaining stash of RL22 is worth fighting over ;-)
Hi Guys,
Just finished a range session trying to get my 300wm to a place I am happy with. I was playing with the Sierra 175 Tipped Matchking and settled on 77 grains of H4831/AR2213 as we know it. 26 inch barrel, and was delivering an honest 3/4 inch group. (Actually be interested in QL data...
Same in Australia. I suspect no one is actually importing Alliant Powders and hasn’t since midway through the pandemic. Our choice in powders at the moment is incredibly limited but what we do have is a generally good supply of adi manufactured stuff which is not so bad. ADI being varget, h4350...
Reckon the 7mmPRC will crush the life out of it. I suspect it will be chambered in a lot more rifles than the 6.8. Actually surprised me that the US military went 6.8…but I am a little slow on the uptake sometimes ;-)
I am about to build a 7mm08. A 243 is being sacrificed, don’t need two of them. Actually don’t need a 7mm08 either but am really looking forward to playing with it. I have a few hundred 139SST’s and was tossing up between Varget and H4350
The other point I would make too is that as a new reloader, he referenced the internet as "Plenty of guys are running this type of load" whilst not actually referencing the source.
I think as a group that has been playing with these issues for years, maybe we should all be a little more vocal...
That is great stuff, thank you. I have cut and pasted that for him.
As a new reloader, the desire to redline and max out velocities seems to be common. Having reloaded for over 30 years, it seems to be a stage most of us go through early on before we learn that it just isn't worth it.
Thanks...
So the 70gr NBT was running at 3,511fps with 42 grains of Varget and the 95 Lapua HPBT's were running at 3,227fps behind 48 grains of RL22. The 95 is truly sweet load regularly shooting under 0.5moa. Hope that info might help someone out as well.
An update on this load as well through the chronograph was 48 grains of H4813sc behind a 129sst was running at an average of 2,705fps. More than adequate for the distances we shoot.
Just an update on this thread for anyone that was interested. The 150eldx with 55 grains of H4350 is running at 3,046fps. Very happy with that outcome.
