6.5x47 for sure. Buddy has one any gets 140's 2,740fps without pushing brass hard at all. Shoots as good as my 6BR. Bug holes at 100 yards and 2" groups at 600 yards are not uncommon. Barrel life should be longer on the 6.5 I'd think.
Here's the pic of the bullet I pulled from a doe mule deer, she was about 150 yards, slightly quartering towards me, bullet broke the first shoulder and we found it under the hide by the third rib. This is why I prefer a little tougher bullet for elk. Sounds ironic coming from me since I use...
I like your plan! And the .257 Bob is a neat round, great for a starter rifle. For elk, I like bigger cartridges, but, I've seen several killed with the .243, 6mm and .25-06. Place the bullet in the boiler room and you're good to go. I really like the 7mm-08 for a starter rifle personally, a lot...
Fantastic!!! Glad to see a fellow Colorado man connecting!! Sounds like you've got your boy hooked! I hope he connects in the near future! I remember my first elk vividly! Couldn't be more happy for the young man! Love seeing the next generation of hunters come along! Again, well done!
I use the 165gr HPGK in my .308 Winchester for deer in the orchards and vineyards around the house. I am pleased with its performance on deer at close range at moderate velocities. I've shot several deer with this bullet from 40-150 yards and all have dropped at the shot. I have one I recovered...
I had really good luck with the 200gr. Accubonds in my win mag, groups hovered around 1/2MOA with H4831SC, H1000, and RL22. Personally I will not use RL22 anymore. I actually try to avoid Alliant because of the way their customer service treated me, I'd rather spend my money on a company that...
I had decent luck with them in my .300 win mag, 74.5grs of H1000, 0.100" jump was the sweet spot in my rifle, tried from 0.025-0.120 and 0.100 jump is definitely the spot.
Not familiar with that bullet out of that cartridge, with my 6.5-284 and 142's I always ran H4831SC. No longer have that rifle and don't have plans for another, barrels wore out too fast for my taste. I've read and heard nothing but positive things about the new enduron powders.
I run Berger's In my .300 Win. Mag., I used to use the 210 Berger but have since switched to the 215 Hybrid. I've seen game shot with the hunting, target and hybrid. I have witnessed kills first hand from 157 yards to 600 yards with the 210 and a buddy shot a cow last year at 412 with the 215...
Here's my 965 yard shot, hard to explain what I was shooting for but the divot on the flat rock. Just about a quarter MOA high and left is where I hit. Doggone canyons are hard!! No mirage to look at! Still a great day. Trace was awesome too!

Cody at 645 and his .300. Going for the circular baseball sized hole in the rock. (sorry, in western Colorado, there is a big .300 win mag epidemic)

Haha thanks, it was a piece for sure! A lot of fun though. Honestly I thought the wind call was light, but it was pretty solid. I've got 20MOA bases and a 6.5-20x50 Leupold LR Scope and those bases are awesome. I've got about 60 MOA of travel in the scope with them and can still zero at 100. My...
Thanks fella's I got video of one of the Bulls. Eating lunch with the horses two Bulls walked in on us. He's the smaller of the two we saw that day, a lot of mass on him. Sorry about the video quality, iPhone over the saddle. Come up for 1,725 was pretty big haha thought I'd share the ballistics...
Threw my new barrel back on my .300, figure I should get some time with it before hunting season. Already had a load worked up for it and rounds loaded. Went up scouting with a buddy, took two shots to get zeroed at 100 yards with the new barrel. Couldn't be more pleased with the 5 shot group...
