You never really know what a rifle will like powder wise. I had an ol’pre-64 270 that liked IMR7828 under a 140 AB, but I couldn’t get that powder to shoot in my daughter’s 270. I began to suspect the rifle was simply inaccurate until I tried RL22 under that same bullet and the groups shrunk...
For inside of 300, sign me up for the regular 140 or 130 accubond. Pushed slow or fast they always deliver a beautiful mushroom and 70% weight retention. Just my .02.

Joe
There was once upon a time that I only had one rifle and I hunted everything with my trusty ol’ 30-06. Then I up and got the rifle bug and that’s changed some. I love hunting coyotes and will use anything I’ve got handy, but somewhere along the line I scored a custom M70 Super Grade in 6mm...
Those CDLs of yours certainly are well traveled and really do deliver the goods. I love seeing a well worn wood stocked rifle out and about getting it done. That 30-06 looks like it will be just the ticket for WY!

I’m happy to report that my kiddos got a chance to shoot their first center fire rifle today and they did great! The magnetospeed said the 55gr BTs were scooting out at 2250 FPS and were really light on recoil, allowing the kids to focus on marksmanship. They were really getting the hang of...
Good work Guy! Do you think the bedding job that guy did on your 25-06 and 30-06 improved the accuracy significantly? I only ask because they seemed to shoot pretty well prior to having them professionally bedded, as I recall and it looked like that gunsmith did a heck of a job from the pics...
When I was a kid, I would serve as gun bearer for my uncle when he took me out for elk. It was a custom FN Mauser with a #6 contour Douglas barrel that was 26” in 7x61 S&H, as I recall. Looking back on it, I suppose it was pretty darn heavy for knocking around in the mountains, but I sure liked...
Thanks guy! I can’t wait to send some down range with them soon. As an aside, mom took them out for prairie rats today and my daughter almost got one using open sights on mom’s 22 Marlin!
Take Care,
Joe
Well friends, I’m happy to say that our OPTEMPO has slowed a bit and the wife and kids are away in NM allowing me an opportunity to get back on the reloading bench. I managed to find some H4895 and am using Hodgdon’s 60% rule to make up some light recoil loads for the kids’ 243 Win. It’s kind...
I’m afraid not just yet. I went TAD for a spell and am way behind the power curve since returning. I did manage to pick up some 55gr BTs for the 243 though. I’d like to run them as light as I safely can, but I’ve got a little carpentry to do on the rifle first. The LOP is way too much on it as...
Thank you guys for the QL assist and kind words! It seems like a different era when we were stationed in NM and she was just a baby. Now here we are and she’ll be 9 this fall. I about fell out of my chair when she said she wanted to hunt on her own tag this year and take the hunter’s safety...
So just completed our application to NMDGF for the upcoming season and am ecstatic to say that my 8 year old daughter wants to hunt for herself this year! This is what I’ve been waiting for all of my life! I’ve been doing some thinking on what rifle to outfit her with and keep coming back to her...
So I just saw a great multi-year post over in the hunting section regarding the 338 Win Mag. It had a lot of great stuff in it from early 2013 from some of the usual suspects here on the forum as they tweaked their loads and tried or recommended different combinations that had worked well in the...
