SPS 25 caliber 115 gr BT blem tip color

I think I've seen this question before, but can't find it when searching. I just got 4 bags of these from SPS, and the tips are colored grey instead of blue like they usually are. I think maybe that's what made them be 'blems'. Anyone else experienced mis-matched tip colors on BT's??? EE2

    Speaking of ugly guns......

Thanks Shade Tree, Here's a little more grip and finish detail. I enjoy playing with stains and getting the finish the way I want. Also enjoy the checkering, but it takes me a long time.

    Speaking of ugly guns......

Well, a 788 doesn't have to be ugly. There was a lot of variation in the wood quality, but most can be dolled up. This is one I worked over for a good friend.

    2017 Wyoming Elk Hunt

Looking forward to the story! I'll be out in the Wyo hills later this week, cow tag. Went scouting October 10th, saw bulls everywhere - no open season before that, and the bull tags need a bunch of preference points. Still just great knowing they are there. Scotty, I dunno if you have points...

    Meat storage?

I wrap most with cling wrap and freezer paper. Got a new freezer this year and decided to read up, and learned a couple things. The advice is - if you're loading a significant quantity into the box at one time, turn down the thermostat ahead of time, get the temp to -10 (minus 10) or so BEFORE...

Nickel Brass = VLD Chamfer Tool?

I use the Lee trimmer set up. After chamfering while the case is still chucked up in my cordless drill I run the case mouth against some handheld steel wool. Smooths up the edges nicely. EE2

    Love those pronghorns

Yep, Doc, we'll take easy anytime these days. We did hike and hunt all morning which was very enjoyable. We were fortunate for sure. Washed it out thoroughly, hauled it home in 45 minutes, skinned, cooled, then cut up and ground burger late the next day. The spaghetti sauce was excellent! EE2

RL16 and 7-08 and mid weight bullets

I've got all Alliant's data. They haven't updated it since the first announcement came out. Quickload anyone? 24" barrel. Nosler Brass. CCI 250's. 139 Hornady flat bottoms and 140 AB's.

RL16 and 7-08 and mid weight bullets

I've looked at the limited published data. Wondering if anyone has experience using RL 16 and mid-weight bullets, like 139-140 grainers? Not much info out there. I have a decent load with RL17, but RL16 might be a better match. I've got 139 Hornady and 140 AB's. EE2

    Love those pronghorns

Raised in Wyo, the first big game animal I harvested long ago was a pronghorn antelope. My fascination and respect for them has never changed. As many know, antelope come with many different shapes to their horns, and also some significant facial features. Although I have taken many over the...

    Elk hunt 340 Bee ready

Fotis, your shooting skill just amazes me! Out of all the groups posted by folks, yours are consistently outstanding. Now that I've entered the curmudgeon category when someone says "This gun won't group" - I can't help thinking the gun might not be the only problem! Not you, mister! EE2

    What To Take

Good advice here! What I don't think I read was some help in the regularity dept, whether runny or plugged up! I always have some hard braid nylon rope, not parachute cord. Antibiotic ointment. Eyedrops. Lens cleaner solution and cloths. Muzzle covering tape, balloon, or whatever. Boresnake...

    Practicing for Bear Season!

My last bear we coarse ground, seasoned it up, and reserved for making bear pizza. Not saying it's better than those maple leaf munchin' Dalls, but it was pretty good! EE2

    168g Amax on feral pigs

I never was enamored with the Photobucket routine. I don't find it difficult at all with the storage I have to just upload from my PC. Besides, that let's me control the size of the danged things so you don't have to scroll up and down and off the right to see a sub- MOA group that looks like a...

Changing loads for Elk vs. deer

You've got plenty of load and bullet advice here! What I've seen and would advise about is controlling the shooting situation. One of the things it takes us all time to learn is dealing with excitement when game is in view. It is so easy to make poor choices in terms of shooting position...

    Iron Sights

I learned to really shoot going through the NRA rimfire program in my youth. Peep in back and various hooded inserts up front. Later I got into archery, using a string peep and pins with beads set at various distances - the basic system used by millions of archers today. My first big game rifle...

    Springfield 84 c

You may want to go to rimfirecentral.com, join, and check and ask questions on the "Savage/Stevens" forum. Here on the Nosler forum most of the focus is on shooting equipment related to centerfire rifles, of course. I'll help if I can. EE2
