Thanks Pop!
I haven't looked at the GMX lately but for some reason I'm thinking there is only one groove. Right now I'm messing with the 130 Barnes TTSX. However, I'm going to try the GMX and AB after deer season in OK is over. I'm around 1.25" with the Barnes at around 2790 fps. My...
That's what I needed to know, thanks. I have Barnes data on the 130 grain and Nosler's on the 125 AB/BT. I can work up loads from that. I was just hoping Hornady might have some data on it.
My Hornady manual doesn't have the 125 grain GMX in it, trying to find a starting point for the .300 Savage. Would like to find something at least a MV of 2800 fps, but would prefer to end up close to 3000 fps .
Thanks!
Have her look at the M70 Winchester featherweight compact in 7mm-08. It will perform the same as the .257 Roberts on deer with 120 grain bullets. I'd also have no qualms taking a saw to the stock to shorten up the LOP and installing a new recoil pad, that's what I did for my daughter with a...
I didn't have any boys and she asked at eight if she could hunt elk, what's a father to say? We started small with Oklahoma white tail deer when she was nine. She missed her elk hunt last year because I broke my leg, we're going this year with some hunting buddies to help her out. I'm going...
I bought a Montana rifle and was impressed with the fit and finish of the rifle. However, my short action .243 Winchester weighed North north of 9 lbs by the time I put a Leupold scope on it (VXII 3-9X40). Id imagine a long action Montana would weight closer to 10 lbs if not over depending on...
It's 125 grain NBT Double Tap ammunition, it averages 3020 fps across my Chrony. I picked up three boxes at a pawn shop for $19.95 shortly after I got her the "big .300". It shot so well in her rifle I never worked up a load for it yet. Three years later she is down to seven rounds. However...
My daughter informed me on Saturday that her first ever pronghorn makes seven big game animals killed with her .300 Savage in just three years. She killed six Oklahoma white tails with it the last two seasons and a pronghorn this year. Now its is off to see if we can get a her first muzzle...
I really appreciate the offer, but another person already pulled a stock and weighed it. The stock weighs in at 30oz, which I imagine is about what the Winlite weighs. The rifle is just heavy because of the all the metal in the barreled action. Plus I'll need a different magazine box and...
Well I don't really consider a 6lbs 14oz rifle that'll go 8.5lbs easy with scope, sling, and cartridges in it a super lightweight rifle. Anyway I'm in contact with MRC to see if there is anything they'll do to fix my issues with the rifle. I've posted the whole email chain over on 24hr...
Ol' Rocky Gibbs was an interesting dude, and what he did with the 06 case was interesting as well. Now does your 6.5 Gibbs have a barrel 26" long as measured from the tip of the loaded cartridge? I always thought that was unique how Rocky determined barrel length.
I've been to the range quite a few times with her getting her ready for her Oklahoma deer hunt. My leg hurts, but I can't let that keep me down every day. Sometimes I just do things and pay the price the next day and spend a little extra time with my leg elevated. The leg is getting better...
Well I don't know what the stock weighs, I'm going to take it out of the stock and weigh the barreled action and see what everything totals up to . I'll probably even pull the scope before I weigh it.
I wasn't looking for a Kimber Montana in the first place unless I could have found a used...
I really don't know how to explain this rifle, it just feels heavier than it is. It's a full 1lbs 6oz heavier than my M70 FWT .30-06 and my M70 EW in .270 is only 1.5oz heavier with leather shooting sling and five rounds in the magazine. Even though I know it balances well, it still feels like...
I ordered this rifle through a special group buy off of 24 hour campfire offered by Whittaker's Gun Shop. I picked up my rifle today from the LGS, and to be honest I'm on the fence about it. I ordered some Talley mounts that didn't make it into the box, but Whittaker's admitted the mistake and...
