Last year I got a couple Savage 93's, a heavy barrel wood stock in 17hmr and the sporter barrel synthetic in 22WMR. I love both of them but I am thinking of off loading the 17 to a friend in favor of a 17 hornet. I would like to get a little more whollop out of the 17 caliber. I want this for...
My quarter bores. Remington 700 CDL and Weatherby Vanguard S2. Could not be happier with with either of them. Lots and lots of loads shot right under an inch and it did not take long with either rifle to get them shooting 1/2 inch.
Lol yep, your rifle inspired my purchase. 25-06 is a great round, I have been incredibly impressed with it. Lots of performance for little recoil. I will let more experienced people chime in about it used with elk. Seems like a 120 grain partition at 3,000fps through the lungs would do the...
I am pretty sure after 18 inches it makes no difference with 17hmr and 22 mag. There is an article floating around out there where someone cut back a barrel inch by inch with a chrono.
EDIT. Here you go

Yeah I can see that in a short barrel handgun for sure. I actually got the 17hmr and 22 WMR because they are easy on the ears while out varmint hunting. And very easy on the ears while plinking with muffs on. Both of my rifles are 21 inch barrels.
Awesome. I just shot some of the gray box 40's in my rifle this morning. My rifle certainly likes the 30grn TNT better. Not huge, but it is certainly noticeable.
Last winter I picked up a Savage 93 F just to try out the 22 WMR. I have been totally impressed with the little rimfire. We use it for blasting water bottles and jack rabbit hunting now and then. It packs quite a whollop. I shoot the CCI 30grn TNT lead frees and chrono'd them at 2,130fps out...
I got a Marlin 1894 in 357 mag last winter. It is an incredibly fun and practical gun. The velocity increase is amazing. It will kick out 125's at 2100fps with room for 2 more grains of W296.
I hope this gets worked out for you. A lemon out of the box is mind boggling frustrating. Sounds like it is on the downhill side of things at this point hopefully.
Well I passed. It had some surface rust here and there, the barrel plugs for the rear site were missing, I did not really care for the one piece scope mount or rings. The action was a pretty cool little action though, for sure a 700. Out the door was slightly over 360 and that was just too...
