temerature change and effects on rifle ammo

I haven't been on a spring hunt in warmer weather for about 20 years, I always sight in my rifles a few weeks before the fall hunt, but I had no choice for this hunt, no big deal, the rifle is ready to go, just had to make a few adjustments with the elevation that's all, leaving first thing come...

temerature change and effects on rifle ammo

Grouping was the exact same consistently grouping about .5" or less, just more velocity hitting about 1.5" higher shooting in 80 degrees vs 40 degrees when I did my original sight in, Lou

temerature change and effects on rifle ammo

Yes, more pressure = more velocity, my windage was dead on too, I was sighted in back in march when temperature was 40 degrees, then tried again last week when temperature was 80 degrees (that's double) I would bet I was getting atleast close to if not more than 100fps faster in the hotter...

temerature change and effects on rifle ammo

Thanks fellas :) I'm going back to the range again on Sunday to re confirm my zero with the 180gr nosler partition bullet, any shots for this bear hunt could be anywhere from 40-100yds depending on if I need to move into a new stand, so I'm going to zero in for about 1" high @ 100yds, which...

Thanks Mike, I'm going to try my best for sure, if I connect, it's all smoked sausage and another nice mount, we'll see, gotta hunt first and spend time in the woods as you know, gotta wear my bug suit for sure, it's nasty in the spring, going to hook up with some Americans too, one young fella...

Thanks Bret, yes I got the stock as a birthday gift from my wife :) from Jason and his wife Lynn from mountain tactical, very nice people for sure, I also added the aluminum bottom metal, but I got that from here via atlas works, yes the barrel channel is totally free floating for a great drop...

temerature change and effects on rifle ammo

I also spoke with John from Federal Premium today, and he agreed with me, there ammunition is made for accuracy, and YES is temperature sensitive, I'm most likely doing close to 100fps or more now than back in March, I'm most likely pushing close to 3100 fps in this heat, either way, going back...

temerature change and effects on rifle ammo

Hi Bret, here's my rifle, custom stock from my buddy in Montana, along with aluminum bolt shroud, and stainless steel recoil lug, groups under 3/4" @100yds, I'm with you, it's not the rifle and or scope. Lou :)

temerature change and effects on rifle ammo

Going to try again this weekend, I never sight in my rifles in warm/hot weather, because I always hunt in cooler weather, the rifle is a tack driver, so to rule things out, it's gotta be either temperature sensitive ammo, and or my LOP with just a T-shirt on, I have a slip on recoil pad that I'm...

temerature change and effects on rifle ammo

I'll have to re check again this weekend Mike, could of been me or something, aside from that, the rifle is shooting the same as before just 1-1/12" higher, mind you back in March temp was 5 degrees Celsius, yesterday was 22 degrees Celsius, maybe my ammo is temp sensitive, I'll go back to the...
