Is there a good or great American-made 45-70? I know several foreign-made 45-70s are high quality, but I’m particular about American-made rifles while I can still get one.

I put a 165 Sierra Tipped Gameking (GameChanger) out of a 7 Mashburn through a cow elk broadside at around 80 or 100 yards last year. She died.
I would wonder about a cup and core’s performance above a certain velocity, somewhere around 2900 to 3000 fps. For instance a close range shot out of...
Agree they make barrels every day!
I have an unchambered Obermeyer 30 cal, 10-twist, #3 barrel and a 30-06 reamer waiting for my 30-06 barrel to give up. No indication that will happen anytime soon though!

I started over with RL26 yesterday. I shot 10 rounds from 69.2 gr to 71 gr over the chrono, 0.2 grain increments. I also switched brass (to a higher quality brass) and primers back to CCI250s (again, just because).

I'll come back to the Harrell's.
I abandoned something about the Retumbo. Great potential...sometimes. Like in this photo shot at 300...
Great 3 shot group, and a big flyer. No idea what's causing that. Could be the brass, something else. Great speed, something is touchy.
Yep. Nothing against H1000. I had more experience with Retumbo and RL26 than H1000 in the other Mashburn so started there.
The Retumbo load with 160 AB shot pretty well today, about an inch for seven or eight shots.
I have this feeling that it’s just as much the nut behind the trigger, not...
I have the RCBS Collet puller. It works well. The only quirk about mine is I have to unscrew it from the press with a wrench after I use it because it is firmly stuck in the threads.
And I’m not sure if any of them are great; pulling bullets is just no fun!

Thanks Scotty! I loaded some more 160s last night to try this morning but I haven’t given up on the PTs. They are great bullets!

Just re-read your post. You are reading flat primers as possible pressure signs. Could be right, like I said I ignore primer signs.
Anyway, CCI250s might make a difference, in that I’ve read CCI primers have harder cups than other primers. So the primers might present different signs...
Funny about Joe Elk! Bill our elk camp “seasoned” rep said the same. Nope, Joel K.
I can’t say about either the WLRs or Scotty’s BR2s. I haven’t used either of them in the 25-06. Of course you could always try the CCI250s if you can find 100 of them nearby. Might help, could be worse.
I did...
I'm headed back out tomorrow. Hopefully the results are as consistent, or somewhere in the ballpark, as this group! I've had loads fall apart on me on day 2, I'm sure we all have.
Here's an image of the 160 AB 0.05 off the lands.
Since I only had a couple hours before I had to pick up the kids from school, I decided to abandon the 175/Retumbo combination for now and try the 160 Accubonds.
I started the 10-round velocity test where I stopped with the 175s, figuring that would be safe because I was dropping a couple...
Departed direct for the range early this morning.
First I shot the 6 rounds of Retumbo with 175 PTs.
71.3 gr 2972 fps
71.5 gr 3017 fps
71.7 gr 3045 fps
71.9 gr 3032 fps
72.1 gr 3073 fps
72.3 gr 3046 fps
None of the charge areas have a big wide velocity node. I picked 71.8 to try, between...
