Briley will make chokes for you so thats covered. I would get a set of extended chokes in SKT, IC, Lt-Mod, Mod. In my 410 it is choked 95% of the time SKT & IC for shoots from 15 to 35 yards. When one moves from too tight of choke to the optimum more open chokes for shoots out to 35 yards scores...
The 3" 11/16 ounce loads will work great out to 30-35 yards, and #7.5 will work great on partridge sized birds. Win-HS hull are the best to reload and 300MP will get you 1200 or better with FED/REM/WIN hulls. Alliant did not list loads for the WIN-HS hull so I sent s few loads in for pressure...
Every rifle that Remington got to examine was tinkered with even those from from the tv show. Every rifle used as evidence could not reproduce the issue by either side. By shear numbers produced that model of 700 rem trigger is the most reliable/safe to date. From the show every police rifle was...
With shot guns you get what you pay for in design quality and up grades as far as wood and finishes go. I grew up on 870 wing masters in 12 and 20 gauge. Was in my late thirty's before I could afford my first O/U a Beretta Black Hawk 20 gauge discounted at $800 from $1200. I never looked back...
I just used up my first 500 rem 200 grain CLRN bullets. My seating has not changed in ten years till I opened the next lot of 500 bullets. Both the OCL at the nose and ogive were .020" longer and that would have put the bullet hard into the lands. This is the only bullet I have loaded in my 35...
On really big game the whelen takes over where the 30-06 leaves off. It really DTR's deer too! Compare the .308 180gr to the .358 250gr in BC & SD than add moooore momentum and frontal diameter. did I mention the is just more of a good thing than the 06?
My main grouse gun is a Baby frame Berretta SP3 28 gauge. You carry this all day long and it handles great! It is my go to gun for clay's and grouse/woodcock/quail. I have the same in a 20 gauge but do not use it except for December grouse and preserve pheasant when a one ounce load is...
Three DRT's not an inch! BUT down!
Two tight to the leg broad side shots, no bone on one with exit. One hit the shoulder blade at exit and bullet was just under the skin. Third hit back bone broad side took out three or four vertebra with it on exit. These were just 200gr PSP-CL's. The 35...
Every bullet has a Max and min impacted velocity plus max RPM. The Partition was the fist bullet to expand that terminal impact velocity range. TUFF up close do to the partition yet SOFT enough to expand at longer ranges. Before it you had closer range bullets say 0-250 yards and longer range...
Speer states "Hot-core bullets are not bonded bullets". Why the hot-core works so well with out bonding or mechanically held in place is there is no lube between the core and jacket and no oxidation when molten lead is poured into the jacket. And yes the GS went to a single core some years ago...
A third shot at those timber doodles would be nice. I figure if they made me miss twice they deserve to live another day. Seems we get one out of every three flushes, NO COMMENT on the ratio of flushes to grouse in the bag.
NICE GUNS
Sinclair has the simplest comparitor. The Hornady/Stoney point comparitors are top notch. Knowing the measurement to the lands for each rifle is a good thing even if only loading to SAMMI OCL.
The REM STS are the best for reloading (12&20ga) with solid brass for easy resizing and +10 reloading. I have 10 on some 20 ga STS and they look like 15-20 is not out of the question.
I do use the Rem STS-209P primers that are a bit pricey. The bulk of my shooting is with the 28 & 410 where Win...
I would love a A7 in 338-fed or 223-rem. Truth be known that 308-win would still do 100% of my big game hunting. A local store had two NIB Sako 85 (I think) walnut stocks in 338Fed for $450 a steal I bet. If those were an A7 I would have paid $600 for another rifle just to have it. They had A7's...
Sounds like a great load, 359 #8 pellets at 1225 fps will get the job done at skeet distances. During the warm months try some #8.5 shot. The biodegrade pigeons can get hard when the temps drop near freezing. I do not load for the 12 gauge just the 20/28/410.
Quality is better than power. Meaning a superior lower power scope can out perform a higher power scope of lower quality.
I would look at a VX3 2.5-8 or 3.5-10 or a VX2 3-9 depending on which one best fits your wallet.
Redfield is made by Leupold and only guessing it would match up to the VX1...
My friend and I have only been using our 410's this year and it is paying off. We only use chokes that we would use while hunting and it shows off which are best and their limitations. Yes the 40 plus yard shoots do get away but not all and some get broke just fine.
We were smashing 30-35 yards...
