    open sights and Cowboy Shooting

    1. Have taken deer w/ a Rossi 92 in 45 Colt w/ factory sights and with a peep. It wears the peep permanently now. Uberti Lightning in 357 with factory sights. Ruger #3 in 45-70 with factory sights. If you count peep sights I use a Ruger MkII RSI in 308 Win and a Savage 99 in 300 Savage. Also...

Velocity Lost with 2" shorter barrel

You can't lose what you never had... If your barrel was the same length assuming that you would get the same velocity would be just as much a guess. "I think the ratio of bore diameter to volume of powder has a lot to do with rate of velocity loss." This I agree with - aka expansion...

200 or 180 gr accubonds in the 300 in mag

I would use whichever shot better. I didn't run the numbers but bet you won't see a big difference in trajectory and both will have enough retained velocity at 400 to reliably expand.

270 win 270 ablr maybe closing in

    How long is your barrel?

    2 touching, 1 out

Make a composite target and look at the group center and group size of first shots.

    That's a hot load for a 270Win...

    2 touching, 1 out

Always the third round out? What happens if you shoot five?

My experience as well. It's where I would start.

    Best sling you ever used?

Latigo for me. Fast, easy and effective.

    243--86 Grain E-Tips

I too would also look to a faster powder in the I4350/W760 range for that bullet weight.

    180 AB in 300 WM

Well that's one way to do it. I don't load for 300WM but I do use the 180 AB in my 30-06. I loaded to book OAL (3.330) and found no need to adjust it.

    Slings

If I had a gun bearer and someone setting up shooting sticks for standing shots, I wouldn't. I don't so I do. Seriously though, I'm not sure what a "safari sling" actually is. I don't use "carry straps" generally but I do use Latigo shooting slings. And yes it comes off going into the...

30 nosler on weatherby vanguard action

    SAAMI Max OAL: .257Wby - 3.250" / .300Wby - 3.560" / 30-06 - 3.340" / 30N - 3.340" Case length: .257Wby - 2.549" / .300Wby - 2.825" / 30-06 - 2.494" / 30N - 2.556" BTW, .270Wby & 7mmWby are the same case as the .257Wby...

New brass vs. once fired brass ?

Many full resize hunting loads. If you are only using one gun I would partial resize and stay off the shoulder unless it doesn't chamber easily. In that case I would bump the shoulder until I had reliable chambering. I would not assume that full length resizing would dimension your brass exactly...

If that's a consistent load, there's not much in this world you couldn't hunt...

location of separating partition 180 g, 30 cal

Well I went and looked... Nosler 7 shows sectioned bullets. Nosler 6 does not. Those are the only Nosler Manuals I have. The Partition picture is a representation of all weights 150, 165, 180 & 200 grains. The PP is only 180 grain. What I see is the opposite of what you are saying. The partition...

    4" at 300 yards

For a hunter it is much more meaningful metric than anything that happens at a bench. I also keep track of first shots over time. To me that is the most meaningful target data that applies directly to the hunt.

location of separating partition 180 g, 30 cal

I believe the PP design was to increase bearing surface in the relatively short neck of the 300WM, not necessarily to make it "tougher" or to have more weight behind the partition.

    Western Hunt

"looking for a rifle hunt with reasonable success, easy draw or OTC tags, and hopefully something that has good views without a 10mile hike since I want my wife to have a good time and not have to push her terribly hard (hoping maybe she will enjoy the scenery and realize hunting is just a fun...

    Primers

True enough... I used only Winchester until I got a Weatherby. The 215s were available so I used them as they were reportedly designed for the big Weatherby cases even though my Weatherbys are not the "big" ones. If they weren't available I would have used the Winchesters. I have no idea which...
