Nosler 48 Heritage 7-08 Final Report

Testing for all of my sporting rifles is done from the bench, supported by a front tripod rest that has a leather sand filled bag. The buttstock is supported by a rear bag filled with sand. I wear a rifle shooters coat for several reasons. It provides stability and support behind the rifle and...

Nosler 48 Heritage 7-08 Final Report

SJB358: The rifle weighs 8#2oz with a Leupold 2.5x8 in Talleys. I keep looking at the Outfitter in 338 WM. That barrel length for the 338 is ideal IMHO. The two factors holding me back are the trigger and the mounts. Nosler uses the Rem 700 footprint bases with 6-48's. H-S precision also uses...

Nosler 48 Heritage 7-08 Final Report

To close on my review, I would like to report the accuracy and final evaluation of the Nosler 48 Heritage 7-08. Attached are four targets which are representative of the precision that I was able to achieve with this rifle. Note that the test distance was 110 or 114 yards. These are all five...

    Kimber rifles

That's more like it. Looks like you got a good one. It would be interesting to see a couple of 5-shot groups from each of the 5 Montana's shown in HomerOz's post. That would be a better statistical sampling. Once bitten, twice shy. As pretty as I think that they are, the only way I would invest...

    Kimber rifles

Quoted accuracy and precision should be supported by a credible statistical sampling. One 3-shot 1/2 moa is not proof of any claim. If you believe 3-shot groups are a better method for sporters, shoot 10 consecutive 3-shot groups and report that aggregate. Similarly, the user sampling of...

    Kimber rifles

I have had several Kimbers over the years, starting with two from Kimber of Oregon. Even the Oregon rifles had some QC problems. In 2010, I bought a Montana in 223 that was a terrible rifle. My experience with their customer service was unacceptable and parallels what has previously been said in...

    Nosler 48 Heritage First Impressions

The F-T/R F-Class rules require your rifle caliber to be 308 Win or 223/5.56. So, it is going to be a 308. I've seen some stellar scores shot with 223's but they don't do as well in the wind. The F-Open class allows any caliber under 35. The 284 Win and it's variants are dominating F-Open. I...

    Nosler 48 Heritage First Impressions

I'm quite the 7mm fan so I have bullets from 120 through 175 grain in Nosler, Sierra, Hornady and Barnes in inventory. For this rifle, I am going to work up loads with Nosler 140 Accubonds & BT's and Barnes TTSX 140's. I have I4350, H4350 and W760 in quantities so those will be the first tries...

    Nosler 48 Heritage First Impressions

Thanks guys. I still haven't had a chance to shoot this rifle. Winter has landed on us here in Omaha. My club range is roofed however it is open to the wind. Trying to use patches and solvents for the break-in would be quite a challenge. I'm about to throw together break-in loads in some Nosler...

    What I want for 2017...........

Yup, that design is close enough to be interesting. Hope that they expand the style to more offerings.

    Nosler 48 Heritage First Impressions

Thanks to all for the warm welcome and kind comments. I really appreciate this forum because of the orientation to "common sense" hunting rifles. You guys get it. Thanks again. Fred

    Nosler 48 Heritage First Impressions

Thanks guys. I certainly love the esthetics of this rifle. I don't think that the mechanics will disappoint with the attention to detail that this rifle displays. It's going to be tough wading through the break-in procedure to get to load development. But I will observe the recommendation.

    Nosler 48 Heritage First Impressions

The Heritage has arrived. In a word, I am pleased. Short of shooting it, it has met my expectations and objectives in a hunting rifle. With a 2.5x8 Leupold in Talley’s, it weighs 8#2ozs. The balance of this pairing is perfect. I don’t know if it was by design, but the ring spacing of the Talleys...

    NEW HERITAGE ON THE WAY

Hodgeman, I have always stayed away from Reloader powders because of temperature sensitivity. My best shooting buddy used to use them and had taken good statistical data throughout the seasons to prove that they are temperature sensitive. You are in a region where extremes are the norm. Do you...

    NEW HERITAGE ON THE WAY

For the 7-08, I’m partial to 140’s but will try some 150’s. Not interested in going lighter. Actually, I wish that there were some good 160 gr RN’s available to play with. Will try all of the Nosler offerings, some Barnes and maybe Sierra if nothing stunning happens with the Nosler’s. I’ve had...

    NEW HERITAGE ON THE WAY

Like I said, HATE the wait! Buying from pictures only go so far. Need to lay eyes and hands on it. I've always been a 7mm nut. When I started culling the cabinet I had a hunting rifle in 7mmBR, 7mm-08, 280 Rem, 7x57 and 7mm Rem Mag. Never really got into the "Ultra" case capacity craze. I could...

    NEW HERITAGE ON THE WAY

JD that figure in your 280 AI is stunning. I'd have bought that one just for the wood. The Heritage that I bought isn't close to yours as far as color and figure. I'll get pictures when it arrives. I hate the waiting. Patience is not one of my virtues. I have a good 300 Win Mag and also a 7mm...
