The 6.5 RSAUM is a great chambering. Two guys I shoot F-class with are building rifles in that chambering right now. From what others have said about the caliber, if you plan on building a repeater, use a center feed magazine...the "short stubbies" don't feed well from a staggered magazine.
Nice choice for a chambering and initial fireforming! That is a nice sharp shoulder after one firing. Have you had a chance to shoot a fireformed case to see what it can do group and velocity wise?
I think any pre-64 action needs to stay in a wood stock...
I have had a 6.5 WSM for about 5 years now. Scotty and I discussed this build for about 6 months before I moved on it. R25 will give you a repeatable 3200+fps with a 26 inch barrel and no pressure in a short action. I shoot the 140 VLD hunting bullet in mine without any feeding or OAL issues...
 Wow... the FX-120i has really gone up since I bought mine about 2 years ago. Great scale though. Depending on what the exchange with Canada is this week,(72 cents today) it will be about $100 increase over the last 2 years.
The Redding S type dies are more expensive, but will give you the best consistency short of a custom die IMO. If you go with a full length S die https://www.precisionreloading.com/cart ... RE&i=77378, it can be set up to give you a perfect .002 bump on the shoulder and minimize working the...
The X-caliber barrels are every bit as good as the others you mentioned, at a better price. I have two; a 5R .223 7 twist and a 6BR 8 twist. Both barrels shoot better than what their price point would suggest. All three manufacturers use button rifling. The X-caliber barrels look kinda funky...
For better consistency, anneal all the brass and use a .270 expanding mandrel prior to running the case through a 6.5 sizing die. K&M makes one I use: http://kmshooting.com//tools/case-neck- ... nsion.html
Good advice with using Templaq in the 2 temp ranges. You won't need to use the templaq again once you have sacrificed a couple cases to figure out where your settings need to be for dwell time. I anneal all my Lapua competition brass after every firing with a Geraud annealer. You can't go by...
I had a Cooper .204 with a 12 twist, that would not stabilize 40 grain pills. I didn't get the acrobatics/splat factor with the lighter bullets either, so it was sold.
My choice would be a .223 with at least an 8 twist (prefer 7) so you can shoot everything up to 80 grain bullets. My LRPV will...
Thank you...I lusted after a K-95 for years, but never had the right amount of money all together at one time to buy the rifle with the calibers I wanted. The Luxus was a little more affordable to begin with and I was able to negotiate a good price for the other barrels I ordered. The fact they...
I also remember she wants it with no ice as she does not like to dilute good scotch
WOW...who would even think about putting ice in good scotch??? Enjoying some 16 year old Lagavulin right now.
Great looking and shooting rifle (y) ! With that setup you will be able to go well past 300 yards.
I have a similar rifle built on the Elisio chassis in 6BRX that is used for competition once in a while, but is mainly used in p-dog towns. Same action as you with a 30" Bartlein medium palma...
Thanks Dan; same to you and your family. I'm sitting around with too much time on my hands after Christmas. It's too cold and snowy to be at the range doing load work, so I became a keyboard commando today  .
Load work is just getting started with the 6.5X47. I've only shot H4350 with...
There is a good article that Speedy wrote for 6BR that might give you some ideas to try. I tried to copy the link, but it wouldn't let me. Do a google search on vertical stringing and it should come up as an option.
If you want to be serious about LR shooting (600 is mid-range) you will need to...
The 6BRAI load is pretty well finalized. This target was shot at 100 (5 shots), and than taken to 300 for verification. 300 yard group was under a half inch.
Hi everyone -
Been a while since I posted on the site. Hope everyone is enjoying some time with their families and celebrating the true meaning of the season...
Thought I would throw up a few pictures of the rifles that will be used for F-class competitions this next year. Both were built this...
2016 (and 17') will be held at Lodi, Wisconsin. This is about a 4 hour drive for me and my first chance to shoot against the "big names" in the sport. The NRA required whatever range hosted the event to have it for two years and have mid-range and LR matches run consecutively. It means I have to...
I'll send you a PM with the info...a couple guys I shoot with monitor this website and I don't want them to know what they are...
You can be very competitive with the standard 6BR if you are only shooting mid-range matches. I got to high master classification with the exact load you...
