I've had great luck with shockwaves and superglide sabots in a TC Omega, should do just as well in the encore. My TC seems to prefer the superglides, I use them with all 250 and 300 grain bullets in that rifle. Been running the 300's over 110 grains of BH209. Dont use barnes mz bullets...
Seems like the easiest thing to try would be to swap the bolt stops short for long and see how it feeds from an '06 mag. Should probably check the throat first to make sure you CAN seat the bullet out far enough to make it worth messing with.
Congratulations! Sheep tags are a rare gift. I drew in New Mexico in 2011, I understand the dizzy basket case thing, it can be very difficult to hold your life and job together over the summer with a sheep tag in your pocket:) Enjoy the scouting and the country, the sheep experience is...
Nice find on the 25, that should be a fun rig! I have a 2.5-8x36 with cds on my 243. Got a smokin deal on the scope slightly used and sent it in to leupold for the cds, very reasonable price and turn around was super quick. A local shop has a 243wssm varmint stalker thats been growing cobwebs...
wow, I'm one of those guys that doesnt know about vld plugs. Had not even considered it. I too use rcbs almost exclusively (without trouble) although i have gotten into the habit of spinning cases as i seat the bullets based on the theory (possibly misguided) that it promotes better alignment...
That should be all the scope you need! I was running a 4-14 with cds on mine but switched out for a slightly smaller 3-9, I found with a 300 yd zero that turrets were superfluous out to 420 or so:)
Good shooting! The 240 is definately an inspiring round. I've had a mark v ultralight for about a year now, really only fooled with 95 and 100 grain partitions, getting good accuracy at 3370 with supreme 780, it's a flat shootin deer zipper for sure. What's your coal with those 90 grainers?
Some great lookin rifles there, congrats! That 240 is gonna be a hoot! Aquired my first Weatherby rifle this year, a mark v ultra light in 240. The guy I got it from "threw in" a vx 3 with CDS, which was neat, but after a hundred or so rounds at the range and zapping a mule deer half way...
I'm with ya there EE2. I shot non bonded 250 grainers for several years getting complete penetration on rib hits. I had one pancake on a high shoulder shot at about 70 yards, dropped her in her tracks but got me to thinkin a heavier bullet might be a better deal. Switched to 300 grain non...
Silentstalker, I'm running them on top of 110 grains of bh209 with a cci209 mag primer (when available) or a federal 209A primer if I can't find the cci's. This load shoots very well in both of my current rifles, a TC Omega (main axe) and a knight disc extreme (better rifle overall, but I like...
I've got a few of the noslers coming and will try to do some kind of expansion test vs. the Hornady sst's. Have had good success on bull elk with 300 grain sst's and 250 grain bonded shockwaves. Have shot several cows with non bonded 250 shockwaves and they work well but can over expand at...
Thanks, congrats on the doe, that sounds like a stout load for sure. I've been using 110 grains (volume) and the 300 grain sst for elk with excellent results. Just curious, as I never thought to try it, do you see noticeable gains in accuracy with weighed versus measured charges?
got a box of those sabots under the bench and some .458 bullets coming in, may have to give it a try as my omega is fairly picky about the plastic part...for those of us cretans that measure charges by volume, what does 73.5 grains work out to?
SPS has ballistic tip MZ blems (you know, the ones that appeared in their spiffy new for 2013 catalogue?) Bought a few, will shoot some tests against the hornady sst's and shockwaves I've been using with blackhorn 209 when they arrive, wish I could have tried em on my bull this year, maybe I...
Blackhorn is great stuff, I've almos t totally switched over in my inlines, still shooting up some of those dirty old pellets in my knight though. I believe it may be a glycerin based powder with additives for the smoke cloud. Residue is a black film which doesn't seem to increase very much...
