Anybody hunt iguanas in Puerto Rico?

Actually, a cross between spotted owl and bald eagle.

Which Enduron Powder for .243 Win.

4451 is dirty, especially if you are at the lower end of the pressure spectrum. That said, I find the copper elimination to be quite good and very helpful. If you have a rough bore, it isn't as effective in my experience.

    Current Project, 44 magnum!

I use a 255 grain, hard cast, Keith style loaded to the max in a 329PD to carry in bear country. I sure don't use it for plinking - it's a handful and I am not recoil shy. The light weight of the 329 is sure handy when you carry it all day. I have 629's in every barrel length they made - and I...

    More powder, less velocity?

What load are you running? Do you find COAL makes a difference in your rifle?

    More powder, less velocity?

I started with US869 but didn't get great accuracy out of it. Now that I have a more consistent neck tension, I may try it again. Many sources seem to think US869 is THE powder for the 6.5-300. I have 3 pounds of it so all I have to lose is a little barrel life! In my 257 and 300 Weatherby...

    More powder, less velocity?

Well, it looks like the culprit was, as suggested here, the new brass. Back to the range today. I took yesterday's brass, annealed it, sized only the necks, chamfered and loaded. 87.3 grains brought an Es of 8 and a StdDev of 4. A 3 shot group was .994 MOA. 87.8 grains brought an Es of 9 and a...

    More powder, less velocity?

I loaded a few extra for this test at 87.0 because FOTIS had good luck at that number, no other reason. It was nothing more than an attempt to cheat. This is 6.5x300 Weatherby with the 127 LRX. I will anneal the cases and do it again. I figure my barrel life is 1,000 rounds at best, so I'm...

    More powder, less velocity?

I was at the range today, testing velocity against a variable charge of RL-33. I suspect some strange pressure curves, or, possibly some neck tension issue. All of these cases were prepped exactly the same way and are new Norma brass. The chrono is a LabRadar, so I believe its numbers. Charge...

    Wounding Game

My son wounded a deer on his first opportunity at his first deer (he's 11) on Kodiak last week. Even without experience, he felt it. We looked for a long time but couldn't find any blood, only hair. He was really bummed and I didn't really dissuade him from the feeling. He got one on our last...

    LRX recovered from Elk

I've only ever had the petals come off on a regular TSX/TTSX once. I wonder if the LRX is more prone to that phenomenon? I'm running the 127 LRX in my 6.5x300 Weatherby but haven't seen a bullet yet...

    257 Weatherby

I use IMR 7828SSC to great effect in the 257 Weatherby. That and the 100 grain TTSX are awesome.

    Empty Chamber?

While safety wasn't my primary reason for going the Blaser route, I do appreciate the safety feature.

    Empty Chamber?

If I am where I may shoot, chamber loaded. Fences, vehicles, horses, camp, etc., chamber empty. I have a slight advantage since my primary rifle is a Blaser R8. The rifle isn't cocked until you manually do so. There's literally no tension on the firing pin spring and you could pull the trigger...

SNAFU.....Rifle? Scope? Load ? less than3 weeks to resolve

Definitely a good cleaning is in order, just to be sure. For the rings, use a torque wrench. (And that's in-lbs, not ft-lbs!) If they won't hold at torque, you'll have to lock them. I've never had to once set at the correct value. If you do, I might consider changing the mount - there's no...

    One Day Development

I usually like the Nosler & Barnes data for the most accurate combo. I can find something that works. Nosler doesn't have any data for the 6.5x300 Weatherby, I wonder why not??? (Maybe 'cause the 26 Nosler??)

6.5 Bee on the range Part II

I've been working with US869, but have some RL33 in stock. I will have to try some. I'm hoping to use my 6.5x300 for an antelope in MT this year, but will have to "drop back" to the 257 Wby if I can't find a recipe that works.

    dakota Model 10

I looked long and hard at them, but ended up with a Blaser K95. Light, trim, and very accurate. Just something to consider.
