I've been working up a load for my Blaser 30-06 barrel and Nosler products.
In this picture, the top row is 180 Accubonds and the bottom row is 150 Partitions. No sight adjustments were made, a minimum of two minutes between shots, minimal wind at the time of the shot and a distance of 100...
I've always thought they are a great value.
You should consider stepping up to a 30 cal. The 7mm-08 really doesn't offer much over the Swede. A 30-06 or 300WSM could give you more versatility with not quite as much overlap. Just a thought.
I have no problem using the 257 Weatherby with 100 TTSX's for just about any game. That said, the 25-06 is a great caliber.
Load development for the Weatherby calibers is usually easy. Approach max at book coal and go shoot little groups or reach out and touch something!
I don't worry too much about extreme heat. All of my quality lubes cover that. I do take care in extreme cold, using greases rated for the temp. I also keep the rifle cold and not let it get warm and then take it outside if there's a chance of it freezing.
I had enough neck tension to hold, but no ability to seat consistently. I'm fastidious about length and it varied too much for my liking. I was basically taking a small amount of copper off the jacket with the seating stem. Not a good thing.
I found in Lapua cases this load is too compressed to load consistent lengths. With the depth needed for the AB and my stash of Lapua cases I'm going to try something a bit faster, probably 4451.
It works fine in Federal cases, though.
That method is fine, as long as you don't have too much neck tension on your test case. You can easily jam the bullet into the lands and end up wit ha measurement that is off quite a bit. The easiest way is to use the Hornady tool and one of their cases to get repeatable measurements. Even...
As usual, the net.wisdom here was right. I found very tight groups with an OCW charge at .080" and .050" from the lands. I was way too close before with the Accubond.
I ended up with 61.3 grains of MRP (or RL-22, if you prefer) and a solid load.
If on the bench, position can mean the difference between unpleasant and not. Stock design is important, too.
I find the 338 win mag more objectionable than my 416 because of its sharpness.
I use 61.3 grains of MRP (same as RL-22) under a 180 grain Accubond .050" from the lands. The primer is a CCI 200. I get great groups consistently with this load.
4350 or 4451 are also good choices.
I have a couple of frames and a dozen barrels. They are all great shooters.
Just snug the barrel nuts with the supplied wrench. There's never been any proof that accuracy is affected with normal torque. The studs are close together and it is the thickest part of the barrel.
I always specify and discuss the distance to the lands with COAL, as almost everybody can relate to that. I always measure both, and keep the data in my notes. Getting the Ogive distance to the lands off the chamber print takes some doing.
Great info. On the 30-06, that puts the 180 grain bullet well into the case. With 61.9 grains of MRP I began to see some pressure signs (flattened primer). The throat is pretty short on this Blaser, I contact the lands at 3.345" COAL, which is only .005" beyond the SAAMI maximum COAL.
I'll set...
What kind of jump do you usually end up with Accubonds? I'm trying to get .30-06. 180 grain AB's to shoot in my Blaser R8 and I've not found a load that works very well at all. I haven't ever had to give up on a bullet before and I bought several boxes so I can keep going.
I've been keeping...
White tails are pretty adaptable, once they arrive. They have made it into Utah, too.
I'm not sure you guys had enough gun! 300 Bee at 100 yards! No field dressing required!
