Practical speeds with 7-08 and 150g Nosler AB LR

I just shot some 140 bergers with RL17. They were cooking well over 2900 fps. No pressure signs so far. I'm wondering if the short bearing surface is allowing more speed than most 140's, or if I'm just running them too hot. With a .51 BC, they should be a good pick for long range work...

Practical speeds with 7-08 and 150g Nosler AB LR

I can get a bit over 2700 with a 162 a-max in my 7mm-08 with RL17. I wouldn't have any hesitation to use that on hogs at 600 yards.

Just to keep your interest up...

The biggest set of antlers I've ever seen on a live deer belonged to a mulie buck that was hanging out in the state park on the south end of wallowa lake. Although, they might have seemed larger than they really were because he was still in velvet and a foot away from my face. Wish I still had...

Why no love for the A-Bolt??

The xbolt I have in 7mm-08 shoots awesome with several bullets. The only thing I dislike is the magazine. It sometimes doesn't "spring" the rounds up into position. And I wish I had gotten one of the wooden-stocked models instead of synthetic...

    7MM-08 powders

I use varget and ramshot big game for 120's, and h4350 and rl17 for 140's and 162's. You'll probably find a great load with the varget or 4064 you already have for lighter bullets, and any 4350 for 140's and up. Big game gets a little more speed with 120's for me, and rl17 gets more speed with...

    140AB 7mm Mauser 2940FPS

RL17 does great in the 7-08 I'm loading for, as well. Glad it's working out for you.

Anyone reload for the 6.5 Swede?

46 gains of rl22 and the 140 of your choice works decent in mine. IMR7828 should be good, too.

7mm Mauser - Even better with age!

Very nice rifle. Keep us posted. I'm interested to see where you end up. Any idea what she could run a 175 partition up to? Seems with that long neck, a long bullet could be both nostalgiac and effective...

Who makes a 6.5X55 modern rifle?

If I had the money to be throwing around, that 1885 in 6.5x55 is the exact rifle I would be ordering. Been drooling over the idea of one for quite awhile now... A Tikka would be nice, too. As would a Forbes if they really do end up chambering them.

Load Recommendation for Barnes 185 Grain TSX BT, 338 Win Mag

Obviously you can do whatever you want, but I'd much rather shoot a 250 grain Sierra or Berger for 1000 yard steel with a .338 WM...

    Bighorn Ram. Take the shot?

This thread is pretty much wrapped up, but I just now found it. The front ram could probably be taken with a shot aiming for the offside shoulder while hopefully not finding the rear ram on a pass through. If it were a truly "once in a lifetime" shot opportunity, I would probably take the shot...

    One more QL request

Would anyone mind running the .338WM with a 200 grain ballistic tip @ 3.360" to 63K?

    The Bucket List

I've wanted an 1885 since I was a kid, and last year's run in 6.5x55 would be perfect. Second place would be a CZ 527 in either the American version and .223, or the walnut Varmint version in .204. Lastly, I've always wanted a .22 Hornet in a Contender. The new .17 Hornet might be even better.

    Ultimate flat liner?

For the ultimate "flat line" trajectory, either the .257 Weatherby with 80 grain ttsx's, or the .270 with 85 e-tips or 95 ttsx's.

    dumb luck

I don't mean to be rude, but your description of just randomly/luckily spotting that buck while driving into town makes me wonder- whose property was it on? Assuming your son had permission to be hunting that property, congrats! Heckuva shot!

    Recoil...the worst?

Add another vote for a shotgun. My first firearm after a pellet gun was an H&R 12 gauge I bought from an uncle when I was 11 or 12. It was a lightweight break-action single with a hard plastic butt plate. I remember rolling up a sweatshirt and putting it between the butt and my shoulder to...

    165gr Accubond vs. 165 Partition???

I can tell you that the one 200 grain accubond I shot into a box of magazines at 100 yards from my 30-06 didn't penetrate nearly as deep as the one 180 grain partition I shot into the same box of magazines, at the same distance, from the same rifle. I believe muzzle velocities were in the...

264 Win mag Vs 7mm rem mag

Fotis, that really is a beautiful rifle.

Powder/load suggestions for the 243 WSSM

I was going by the original post- he mentioned the 105 a-max, but also the 100 partition. I would think an 80 TTSX should do anything a 100 Partition can do. That 95@3200+ that Fotis mentioned would probably be a hammer, too.
