that is very interesting, indeed. I kind of figured the velocity would drop off a tad more, but the accuracy was still pretty good even with the barrel cut to 10". That would be an awesome truck gun!
I found some! I'll start Monday with Nosler brass, CCI 250 primers, RL-22 and AB 160gr. All is the same except for the brass and I plan on starting a bit lower and coming back up and fine tune it, then I'll nail it down and load some for deer season. After I do that, I plan on loading some 140gr...
I do believe you have, POP. I'm glad I found something for it since it took all but about 30gr of RL-22 I have left and there's none to be found in the southeast. That's the way it goes for me, I guess.
First of all, I'd like to thank all of those who responded to several of my earlier posts regarding the 7 RM and convinced me that RL-22 IS the powder for 160 AB's. I'm sure that other powders work well for alot of you, but my rifle kind of likes it. It's not the best group I've shot, but I'm...
Pop, it's a 26"- 9 1/2" twist. I'm going to start bumping up the charge on RL-22 in the next couple of days and see what happens. What is the possibility of a slow lot of powder? My loads of RL-22 did the same thing, increase charge=decrease velocity when a certain point is reached, but no...
I've tried RL-22 with low velocity (below 2800 fps w/63.5 grs) I'm going to step it up some, but I just tried H1000 because I've had real good results in a 300WM with it.
I tried some H1000 in my 7 RM with better velocity, but so-so groups, not what I expected. Once again, odd velocities with the lighter charges averaging higher velocity than 1gr increase in powder. Started seeing a little pressure @ 72grs.
velocity avg for:
71gr-2953
71.5-2934
only one...
craiger40, that's what I thought at first but I ran some 140 AB's through it just to check my chrono and it appeared to be correct for that load. My chronograph is a Competition Electronics Pro Chrono.
Thank you, DrMike, for explaning that slow barrel thing. Wouldn't the 140 AB show signs similar to that of my experience with the 160 AB? Or would the pressure needed to get the 140gr moving quickly, be low enough to not effect velocity that much? I'll start bumping it up slowly.
Thanks again...
DrMike, my loads with the 140's are pretty much on velocity wise with 64.5grs of IMR 4350 average of 3205 fps. What exactly does a "slow barrel" mean? I'll know more when I check the ones I have left, I kept two of each just to check.
HTDUCK, he used Win. mag primers loaded .040" off lands...
I had some 160gr. AB's loaded with RL-22 from 61-62.5grs in .5 gr increments and the velocity was sad. 62.5gr= 2764 fps avg. I've got a Sendero with a 26" barrel, so by the Nosler #6 it should be about 3000 fps (with the guide usually being off by 100 fps or so). My question is how is that...
has anyone tried Vihtavuori N560? just curious. It is supposed to be very tolerant of temp change and good-n-clean burn. I picked up some Nosler brass for when I nail down a powder to use. I've seen posts that say that Nosler brass might create higher pressures, any experiences?
Alright, I've finally found the rifle that I've wanted for some time now. A Sendero 7mm RM. I shot some 140gr AB's over 64.5gr IMR 4350 with great results (.375") but I'm going to go with 160 AB's . I'm going to keep the 140gr load also, but I need some general info on what you guys think on a...
thanks fella's, the rifle had some Conetrol scope mounts on it that were not right (front was higher than back, dovetail was cut wrong) but I sent them back to Conetrol and the problem was resolved. I should have them back in a few days to get started on it. Right now, I've got the stock...
Does anyone have any experience with Conetrol mounts? I have a Sako AV with them on it and when I put my scope on it it doesn't have enough elevation to get to zero. My scope is a Leupold Vari-xIII 6.5-20x50. I can probably get it with shims, but I hate to do that and there would be only about 8...
I didn't get home until late this evening so I will shoot some Fed TBBC 225 gr that the guy gave me and see what they will do. This rifle (when I get it dialed in) will be for whitetail on power/gas lines and my Mississippi trip, other than that it'll go in the back of my safe until I save up...
I picked up a Sako AV in .338 WM today and was wondering what to expect in terms of velocity with a 22.5" barrel. It appears to have been cut and brake installed. I'm up in the air with whether 200 gr AB's or 225 gr AB's. Heck, I'm even thinking about 180's. I know alot of you have .338's and...
I'm thinking of buying a Sako AV 338 WM, and I just wanted some opinions on it. I've never known anyone who has had one. I recall reading somewhere that they were pretty good rifles. Any help?
