    Roosevelt Elk

Here in AZ the cabin people say the same thing about Javalinas. The same as seeing every game species BUT the one you hunting when trying to fill a tag. Nice pictures can't get enough of Elk.

    Browning BAR 30-06

Thank you for sharing. I gave up on camo tape the first time I tried it. Traps too much moisture. My FIL has a BAR .30-06 I hope to talk him out of some day. The next time I visit I am bringing some reloading tools to see what it can do.

    Which rifles this season?

.340 Wby with 250 Nosler Partitions if the Elk are in the PJs since shots can be near to far. .444 Marlin with 265 Hornady FTX if the Elk are in the timber.

    416 WBY

WOW. No wonder your neck hurts. Awesome load, speed and accuracy. Reminds me of the old Weatherby Delta. You could hunt T-Rex with this.

    45 ACP small primer brass

My understanding matches diverdown and gbflyer. These are usually Federal and had non-toxic primers with non-lead bullets. I was saving them, but they are so few and far between I just toss them now. They jam the primer seating process pretty good and are therefore dangerous in my simple...

    Did you ever screw up?

I feel better now. Keep it coming. My biggest goof (yeah, there are many others) was not having the 10 grain weight set fully in the slot of my scale. (I seat my bullets, then crimp them instead of length sorting the bullets first). I ended up with a 6 grain over charge on a .308! (Yes...

    44 Magnum Help!

I am sorry you are having such a hard time with your Marlin. I have an stainless 1894 in .44 Mag that much more accurate than you have experienced. It is a pre Remington JM for what that is worth. Definitely a 200 yard gun with open (peep) sights. Here is the load I use: Bullet: 300 gr...

    Finally gave in

Thanks for the intel Slimfinn. I am a Leupold guy and have both the Boone & Crockett and Varmint reticles. I like the Varmint one better because of the very thin "wires." The B&C is good for shorter ranges like you said is true for the RZ600. Once you get the holds down both are fast to use...

    Finally gave in

What reticle do you have on your Zeiss hd5 3-15x50? The weight at 25 oz doesn't seem that bad compared to many other scopes in this class, but I would agree that a reticle that obscures the target is not a good thing. I have always been interested in Zeiss as they have a good price point so...

Update! Model 70 Featherweight 280 rem.. I bought it!!

My focus has been on accuracy over speed, but you can get near 3000 according to the Nosler book. I have a T/C Prohunter that never was accurate with the 28" barrel, but became a good MOA gun with 5" inches lopped off. Easier to carry and only gave up 105 fps. Best yet, you can rechamber your...

    Do barrels "get faster"?

OK, so I am the ignorant one. (not stupid, just ignorant) What is the "4 in 1 rule" your talking about Steve? No google search revealed anything for me. Yes, increased speed and more consistency too in my experience. Thanks for a "learning" in advance.

    Old school powders.

4831 and 4831sc are two of my favorites in my .280AI with 140 NBTs. The sc duplicates the long cut from what I have tested, but does meter better. I expected the sc to be faster given more surface area. I have a lot to learn about powder technology. RL-19 is my favorite right now for Berger...

    Safari Rifle Challenge

Oh WoW Guy. Great Post. Wish I could be there next year. My shoulder hurts just from sympathy.

    Okay you technical shooters.

Yes I do think neck tension can make this difference at a 100 yards, but I could be wrong. The .280AI Nosler M48 I am shooting was just like your group. Two, maybe three nice and tight and then a "flyer." This was so consistent I could call it. After about 750 rounds this started to be less...

    Okay you technical shooters.

You and I may be at the same place. I have two "trash" rifles that shoot sub MOA with custom loads that were 3+ with anything factory I tried. It is nice to turn a rifle a gun store offered me $50 for into a sub MOA rifle. Random fliers frustrate me and sure it could be the nut behind the...

    Budget Over and Under

My vote is for a Yildiz imported by Academy Arms in Katy TX. This is more like a $250 gun, but my 20ga shoots great. Totally changed my Dove effectiveness after shooting a Rem 870 for years. The Turks really make good stuff for a low price. Nice wood and engraving too.

    Okay you technical shooters.

    Do you neck turn?

    Oversize Nosler Brass

Hi 6.5-sWv - exactly what I thought. It will be good to have the body die, but I'll just run everything through the body die before neck turning just in case. I have two boxes unopened purchased during a sale that I haven't tested and probably will not need for a couple of years.

    Lucky group.

Excellent. You guys make me want to try even harder. 8 in a hole has me beat as I am scared to shoot any more after 3 in one. Check out this inexpensive software that allows you to electronically measure your targets MOA, etc. as long as you have a reference measurement...

    Oversize Nosler Brass

After loading about 4 boxes of Nosler .280AI brass over the years I ran into a problem with a recent batch. While at the range working up long range DOPE, 20 rounds from the same brass batch of 50 would not chamber by about 1/4". This was obviously not a seating depth issue as confirmed after...
