Its beautiful guy, it looks brand new. Your getting excellent accuracy with the factory ammo, it will be interesting to see if you can get much better. I have big variety of 7mm bullets, under 175 gr. if you want to try something different let me know.
Several online references to a 24 grain load, out of older Lyman Loading handbooks.
From the Marlin Owners website, "That is a hotly debated topic. Some folks have done it for years with no problems. I know of at least one fellow that used cream of wheat as a filler and ringed his barrel...
I started with the Partitions, in the 60's, in my 06 then moved to the 180's in my 300 WM. I have taken a lot of mule deer, and elk with them as well as a couple of Caribou. The PT is still my go to bullet in my 300 WM. Their BC is lacking for the truly long range hunter, and I do use the BT in...
I am currently hunting NW Arizona and SE Nevada. I use two Remington bolts, one a .223 the other .308 tactical. As I don't care about the hides, I use 55 and 150 grain SP, Bullets. I have several mouth calls, and usually pick up at least one every time out, but am running on a dry spell. Its...
I think both would be minimal for 450 yards. If the perfect shot presents itself on a calm day with the elk standing broadside in a field cleared a 1/4 mile in all directions, unaware of your presence, and you have a solid rest that you can hit a dinner plate from , then you would be OK. I...
For years i have done the same as you ask, i have used 180 gr. Sierra, FB bullets for practice as a substitute for for 180 grain Partition. The are ballistically the same, and the Sierra's hit 2 inches right of the PT. But i ALWAYS check my sight settings prior to hunting season.
Congratulations on your elk, she will be outstanding table fair. I have taken several elk with the AB and find your performance similar to mine, they are a fine bullet, for game.
Not having ever used them, I cannot say as to their effectiveness. However there are few bullets that will out prerform the Partition. You know me if it works don't change it, touch it or mess with it, in any way.
The magnums have a tendency to separate just forward of the belt after so many loadings. After sizing the cases, you need check each case for a rough, spot or a seem developing, on the INSIDE of the case. A simple tool can be made using a piece of single strand wire ( i use # 10) with a 1/4"...
6 grains seems like a lot, i like to keep mine within two or three grains of each other. What is your median weight? I would separate them into two groups and would test for accuracy with each separate group. Those well outside of both groups i would smash and put in my brass, trash...
The .358 Winchester is a .35 caliber rifle cartridge based on a necked up .308 Winchester created by Winchester in 1955. Cartridge cases can be formed from .308 cases. They were also offered in lever action rifles a long ways back.
