I was at Scheels in Overland Park, Kansas, on Saturday and found the same thing. IMR 4350 was the same price, essentially $10 more per pound than the Hodgdon equivalent. Winchester, Accurate/ Ramshot, and Hodgdon powders were cheaper than IMR even though all are Hodgdon items.
I did...
Salmonchaser, actually today was the first time he'd ever seen one. He REALLLLLY wanted to keep one to play with for a while but his owner had other ideas.

Today my stepsons and I went on our pheasant hunt. The guy who runs the site said he was one pheasant short of the promised number so he substituted 3 chukars. This suited us just fine as none if us had hunted them before.
We had an absolute blast! We used a chocolate lab named Echo who was...
I recently read (can't remember the source so I can cite it) that the problem is nitrocellulose, a key component of powder. Two main suppliers are Russia and China. Russia, of course, is using much of what it makes for it's own military and not exporting much, especially to NATO countries...
Following the advice of the folks here, today I followed through with my original plan and bought a Leupold Mark 4-HD 6-24x52 in the MOA system.
Using a set of Vortex 34mm rings I mounted it on my Tikka Super Varmint 6.5 PRC. I was very happy with how combination turned out.
Thanks to...
XP and Jim, thanks for your help and insight. The article Jim sent really helped me decide that I will likely stay with my MOA scopes since I'm already more familiar with that system. I don't think this old dog could learn the new trick so easily.

I've seen/ heard the terms used when referencing reticles in scopes. All of my scopes are moa, but I know many of the long range scopes use mils. What are any advantages/disadvantages of either type? As a base line, I'm not a PRS guy but I get the opportunity to shoot long range (out to 500)...
I delivered to my LGS today and saw they had gotten their powder/bullet order in for the month.
IMR 4350 is on the shelf for $71.95/lb. No joke. I know Alliant powders are very high but it appears to be spreading out to others more and more.
Let me add, the guy who runs the shop isn't a...
JD, you're right, it's a fixed modified choke. I failed to include that info in my original post. This gun is from the late 60s, the predecessor to the 1100. My dad used it to kill squirrels rabbits, quail, a wild pheasant once that flushed when quail hunting, and even coyotes. It was his...
My wife told me at Christmas that my present was going to be late and it was too big for a box. I let it ride and, quite frankly, had forgotten about it until yesterday when she announced out of the blue that I was going on a pheasant hunting trip with my two stepsons. She knew I have always...
BD, a friend of mine who has used that bullet extensively in 243 said it turns it into a 25-06 with it's terminal effect on deer. It uses a Matchking jacket which is why it's a tougher bullet with very good to excellent accuracy.
I've only shot one deer with it, a large doe at 120 yds. Hit her...
Thanks guys. I talked to the man who runs my lgs and he said that is $38 less per jug than he can buy it for. We speculate Scheels buys direct from Hodgdon, bypassing the middle man and the associated price increase.
My lgs has an 8 lb H4350 on the shelf, $480.
Anyway, I'm happy.
Ron
I called my closest Scheels yesterday to see if they still had any 8 lb jugs of Retumbo I saw a month or so ago. The man I talked to said they didn't, but he DID have Varget and H4350 for the same price, $349. I asked him to hold two Varget and one 4350 for me and I would get them today. In...
As an update to my previous post, my LGS got in RL-10x, 15, 19, and 22. All are $69.95/lb.
Varget went from $58 to $65 and some others went up, too. I couldn't keep track or remember them all. An 8 lb H4350 is $480.
The VV, Accurate, and Shooter's World powders are still lower. He has Match...
I bought one a little over a year ago. So far, it's been a fantastic performer, shooting any kind of ammo ino nice little groups. I had read accounts about shooters having malfunctions but so far mine has been great.
Hope you get yours back quick. I think you're going to like it.
Ron
My LGS is supposed to get some 19 and 22 next week. They told me when it's on the shelf it will be almost $70 per pound. I don't use a lot of either so I'm not affected much.
I would love to know the REAL reason why Alliant has been so scarce for so long and their prices have almost reached the...
After reading some of the latest posts mentioning Norma brass, I went to Midway's site. I found what to me is an oddity.
They list the brass, all right, in new and blemished condition, 50 rounds per package. The strange part is, they are both the same price, $68.99! SMH.
