Given the same level of pressure that is not possible.
A 150 gr loaded at the same pressure level out of a 7MM mag will have more downrange energy than a 140 from a .270, because the 7MM mag has more powder capacity.
But most people miss an important factor...INERTIA....thats what KNOCK DOWN...
OK...I am basically a Deer/Bear hunter living in Big woods country. Shots are fairly close in thick cover and the bucks can top the 200lb mark (when you are lucky) I probably will go on a few Antelope, Muley or Elk hunts.
I already have a 7mm 08 Featherweight 70... .280 Rem and a .270...
Hey JD...
Where is your wife from? My dad is from Alpha (Crystal Falls area) and I taught for 27 yrs in Iron River. I currently reside in Iron Mountain, but do most of my hunting in Iron and Eastern Dickinson County.
Yes...my .280 and 7mm 08 will be working on loads with either the 150 NSBs or...
I'm hoping that someone here has some hands on experience with the Solid Base.... I'm assuming they perform some where between an Accubond and Pertition? :?:
Yes the Accubonds did not stay together in either deer....140# and 160# whitetails.(40-50 yd shots...7mm08 at 2800fps)
I shot a nice Antelope this September at 305 (lazered) yards with 140 gr Accubonds out of my .280@ 2,900 fps...I had two small exit holes also as the bullet separated on the rib...
I am hunting big Whitetails up North near Lake Superior. It is very thick rugged country and shots are close...30 to 60 yards.
I plan on using Nosler Solid base or Accubonds and my new Model 70 Winny FeatherWt in 7MM 08.
My buddy shot two nice deer up here last season with his 7MM 08 and 140 gr...
We almost always hunt all season in cold and deep snow up here where I live. We've hunted for four generations here and in Canada and Alaska with wooden stocked rifles....never had to ever refinish one.
Newer wood stocks are sealed with tougher finishes than before. As far as in the field...you...
try playing with your COL...In my experience the Sierras and Noslers often perform at different lengths and/or powder charges....even at the same weights.
The Ogive dimensions are different....sometimes it takes quite a bit of load work to get under that MOA mark with a given bullet.
I noticed that too....there have been rumors of the 7mm RUM and some of the short Rem UltraMags being dropped by the Big Green....ya gotta wonder?
I got my new Winchester Mod 70 Featherweight Stainless 7mm 08 yesterday. I was very impressed with it....fit, finish, everything is straight and tight. The checkering was beautifully done.
I topped it with a 2.5-10 Bushnell 4200 and loaded up a few rounds...
1) 140 gr Rem factory...
The Hornady Light Magnum ammo with 139gr SSTs is a good factory load at close to 3,000 FPS.
I 've also had good perormance with the new Federal Vital Shok 140 gr Nosler Accubonds...though they are pricey.
I use 140gr Nosler ABs in front of 46.5gr of H 4350....2,680 fps and 0.550" groups at 100...
I have personally shot two nice bucks with a .243 using 100gr factory loads with Sierra GameKings....both were lung shots and neither took more than a couple steps and were dead when they hit the ground.
I hunt in very heavy cover and many times have to take quartering shots...I prefer heavier...
I ended up getting a new Remington 700 BDL (drop box) in a swap recently....I had a similar one many years ago (1965) as the first deer rifle I purchased. That one was a tack driver so I was optimistic.
After trying several factory and some reloads my confidence was waning...nothing would group...
Don't be surprised if you do better than MOA Blaine! Try some 165 Nosler solid base(cheap from Nosler Shooter's Pro Shop). I had great luck with 60gr of RE-19.
I too am getting a Timney replacement.
