Someday when I can afford it...there will be a .280 AI in my small arsenal...
For me and my hunting desires from Yotes up to Elk and even Moose it sure fits the bill...with less recoil than a 7mm RM.
I have studied the .280 on many reloading threads and articles...It is my favorite caliber.
I looked for 2 yrs for a Remmy 700 CDL just to get a 24" bbl w/o spending for a custom rifle.
What I have surmised is that in order to get the published velocities in a 22-24" bbl you need to load to...
Yes...My son lives in Golden, Colo...you guys got a LOT of snow!!!
I lloaded up some .280 120gr BTs with H4831...53.5, 55.5, 57.5 We'll see what happens soon.
I also loaded some Varget and Re 15 with 125gr SBTs for the new .308. I have a 3.5X10X50mm Conquest on her.
I have upgraded everything else so I sold my Lyman Mag II press and am heading to Cabelas next week for a new turret press and trimmer...
I like RCBS but the 7 position Redding is appealing because I load for three calibers... 30.06, .308, and .280... The 7th hole would be nice for the bullet...
Hi Guys...
Well the Coyotes are really numerous this year so I have put a 4.5 X 14 Fullfield Ballistic Plex scope on the .280 CDL for some Yote hunting.
I have a box of 120 gr Ballistic Tips and various powders soooo.... any suggestions for a recipe?
Is this a good set up? This is the 1st time...
Hey Guys!
I 've been buying points for an Elk hunt in Wyoming next year. I have decided to take the .280 Browning SS Stalker as my main rifle and my .270 Mtn rifle as a back up.
I already have 140gr Accubonds shooting 0.250" groups at 100yds with the .270 Win...
I am planning on working up a...
I agree...
I shot all of the above with my 280s... 140 for Prarie Goats, 150 all around, 160s for Elk...
I prefer Accubonds for everything smaller than Elk...then its Partitions. :P
Tom
We had a discussion a while back concering my idea of working a 160gr Accubond load up for my Remington 700 CDL in 7mm08.
Well...I worked up a couple different loads with IMR 4350 and Varget and this morning headed for the range...
I was very pleased with these results;
43gr IMR 4350.....1.14...
I have Longwinters load for my new .270 Mtn rifle...Why?...Because when I traded my old .270 I sold him by dies and stuff...
I had very good results with 140gr bullets out of my Sako and Sauer .270 Wins with RL 22...but... with this Remmy Mtn rifle Long has loaded me 140 gr Accubonds...
VERY VERY COOL! 8)
Long and I are going to tweak the COL a little longer on the .270 Mtn Rifle with the 140gr Accubonds to see if I can best the 0.30" MOA group I shot last Saturday...
I dont really know if I can shoot that well two sessions in a row!! :o
I am very glad this thread appeared...
I built a nice rifle with a pillar bedded medalist syn stock under a Wby Magnum action and 26" bbl in 30.06... I topped it with a Zeiss Conquest 3.3X10X44 scope.
I just started playing with loads for it for a 2008 Wyoming Elk/Mule Deer Hunt. The 165gr...
Thanks JD...ME TOO!!
The CDL is driving tacks with 120gr NBTs and also 120gr TSXs... I may reconsider trying to get the 7mm08 CDL to shoot 160gr loads for Swamp deer and let that one be my Wesrtern long range Coyote/Antelope/Deer gun with its 24" bbl...Not to mention my 26" bbl Wby 30.06...
Read my post under..."I like Remington again".... I agree with 7mmFan and shoot mostly in the Midwest.
I am a reloader and have never had a "heavy bbl" or custom rifle...
My Remington CDL and new Mtn Rifle are both "Sporters" and have already shot under 0.50 MOA...I have had factory Tikka and...
My Dad hunted deer up here in the UP of Mich back in the 1930s,40s50s and 60s...His rifle through that era was the venerable Winchester 94 in 30.30. He shot many, many deer.
When I was old enough to buy my first deer rifle(1963)...he advised me to get a Rem Model 700 bolt in 30.06...He used...
I loaded some 120gr BTs up with 43.5 gr of IMR 4350 and ran them through my 7mm08 Rem 700 CDL yesterday
WOW... 0.42" @ 100 yds!!
But I need some confidence from field reports before I go after Whitetails with them...especially at close ranges.
We have similar backrounds and experiences...
My family comes from a long line of loggers and Deer hunters in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Military training and rifle team competitions got me very focused on accuracy and bench rest shooting....I am 60 yrs old so perhaps my tendancy for...
Sorry Savage 99...the hole appears to be near the center of the back thats why I thought it was the entry hole....
I meant the ENTRY holes from 140gr accubonds that I have seen have been twice that size...which I am trying to avoid.
I like your handle...Savage 99. I shot several deer with a...
I call that bullet "blow up"....what kind of exit did you get...if any?
Just curious...if you would have hit the shoulder with that same performance do you think the bullet would have passed through the shoulder blade for a kill shot or kept going?
My friends 140gr Acc hits are even more...
