After processing some more of the brass that I got from the same batch from this individual, it appears that it has been annealed, and I cannot tell what method or how consistently this was performed. I’m thinking that this may be the culprit, making the shoulder and just behind it softer than...
Thank y’all for the responses. I was surprised too, but this does not occur with my other non compressed loads using different powders, so I am comfortable in saying that it is the powder and not the seating die setting. I don’t have the die set to crimp, either. I’ve used compressed loads...
As some of y’all helped me out in finding loads, you may remember that I was trying to develop a load for my .308 Win Savage 10 with I4350 and 165 and 180 Nosler BT/ABs. I found good accuracy with the 165s using Nosler book max, which also happened to be its accuracy load: 50gr I4350, Win brass...
I wonder why more reloading manuals/databases don’t list load data for it? Hodgdon/IMR doesn’t even list it. It really seems like it’s as good or better than some of the more commonly used powders for the 308. I’m actually very excited to find out about this and am looking forward to trying it...
I know that the Varget burn speed (4064, RL15, etc) is the ideal powder for this, but I have a big ole jug of I4350 that’s begging to get tried out in this rifle. So far I’m below max speed with RL15 at one accuracy node, so if I lose a few FPS from book max using this powder it won’t hurt me...
Well, that was pretty easy. It didn’t seem to like H4895 with the lighter bullets, but I’ve found a couple of good loads for multiple uses.
I may tweek the seating depth on the 165gr load, but there’s really no room to adjust the 125gr load. Did not chrono any of them
I took the savage 116 back out again yesterday to run the RL26 load through it again in different conditions and out to 200yd. I ran it fast at 100yd and two shots were almost touching while the third hit about 1 1/4” high. I let it cool and took it out to 100 where I shot 3 slowly, but no real...
