I had 3 loaded at 64.2, but pulled them after I started seeing the primers flattening. I know that many people feel that is not an accurate pressure indicator, but it’s definitely something to watch. I don’t want to “tickle the dragons tail” too much. There’s not a lot between 61.5k psi and...
I’m going to retry it from 62.9 on up to 63.8 in .3 grain increments set at 3.340 oal, so I wouldn’t say that I have a final load yet, but that 63.8 shot the best. I like to try my loads out with repeatable results on multiple trips before calling them done.
I would be thrilled with 2850fps and...
I went to the range today, but I was a bit rushed and had to rebuild the “table “ to hold my chrono, as well. Needless to say, I didn’t shoot my best, but I was still pleased overall with the results. 180 NABs.
I may have been guilty of some poor trigger/bench discipline, but sub 1” at 100...
So I procured some RL26 and loaded up some test loads to try out. I will get my chrono from my brother in Saturday as I head to the range to try some loads, starting low on the listed QL loads and looking for pressure signs. Hopefully I’ll get similar accuracy but better speed than I’m getting...
Some guns have fast barrels, some have slow barrels, and some just don’t like certain powders for velocity. I have Rem 700 270 Win that shot really well with H4831 and 140 BTs, but I saw RL17 and the velocities that it showed in the manuals and decided to give it a try with 140 NABs. About the...
Good to know. RL17 has been good to me with 165s, but my rifle doesn’t care for it with 180s. I thought that RL23 and 26 were both of the same “series” of temperature stable powder. I’m going to try to trade off the 23 and give the 26 a try, as it seems like it will give me what I’m after with...
I see that now... I’m not used to looking at the QL listing. That’s surprising because RL22 is supposed to be good for that application and those two powders are supposed to be very similar.
What about running the same specs with RL26?
Thank you. That RL23 information is closer to what I expected to see. I’ll stay below 62gr and hope to get close to 2850ish fps, maybe just a fuzz under. I hope it’s accurate, because my IMR4350 load is crazy accurate but I hope for a little more speed.
If it’s not too much to ask, could someone run a quick load for a 180 Accubond (I have a bunch on hand already) and RL23 using Winchester brass and CCI200 for my Savage 116 22”? I have procured a pound to try, but those Speer numbers look a little different than what I’m used to getting with...
I saw the Speer stuff last night, and I appreciate the link. I’m hoping that I can get around 2850fps with a 180gr Accubond. I’m already getting around 2750fps using I4350, but I’m always tinkering and looking for the next great thing.
I’m not seeing any published recipes from Alliant or Nosler on their websites. Anybody have any experience with them in the 30-06? I know that many swear by RL22 in the 30-06, but RL23 is supposed to be a similar burn rate with better temperature stability.
I’m a constant tinkerer when it comes to reloading and shooting. My 30-06 shoots so doggone well with so many loads, you’d think I’d just pick one and stick to it... but this thread is causing me to have another itch to try a different load. Alas, I won’t have near enough time this winter/spring...
I’m going to try them both out to 400 yards at the range and see which does better. They’ve both shot equally well out to 250 yards in the past. That will likely be the determining factor.
