    Here's a pretty cool option in Creedmoor. http://www.weatherby.com/products/rifle ... mpact.html

    Cartridge for youth hunter

Preacher, as far as I know Ruger doesn't make a youth model. They make a compact but it isn't offered in a Creedmoor.

    Cartridge for youth hunter

I love the 257 Roberts. It's my favorite deer caliber by far. That said, it is dying. Kimber is making it in the affordable Hunter model. I have seen them on sale for under $700. That's about the only viable option in 257 right now. Finding 257 ammo is hard. Even brass is hard to find...

    If you had your choice...

It's hard to go wrong with a 45-70. You can find a good CVA single shot in an off season sale for $200. I have one in 44 magnum, and it's a great rifle out to about 125 yards. A Marlin 1895 45-70 is another good choice, but they cost at least twice as much. Any good scope can handle their...

    Let's talk about the Whelen....

I read an interesting thread on another forum about a JES Whelen rebore. Probably worth a read. http://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve ... 8041046622 Everyone should have a Whelen once in their lives. Mine was a Remington 7600 when I was stationed in Kodiak. It was one of 3 guns I took...

    Ruger Number One Discontinued?

A poster on Ruger.com said he got a call from Ruger's president saying that the number one had not been discontinued. His handle is numero uno and he has long been regarded as the leading expert on all things number one.

    Best tasting wild game

The best wild game I have ever had is blacktail deer from Kodiak Island. It's mild and tender. The worst wild game is mallard ducks...from Kodiak Island. Who would have known they feed on dead salmon? I stank up my entire apartment complex cooking that rank crap.

    Accubonds

That may be so, but remember, trolls do too. Here's something to ponder. "Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex... It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction." E. F. Schumacher

    Ranking Brass

Doesn't look like many are using PPU. I bought some in 30-06 and it's easy to work with. I can't quantify it because I didn't weigh and measure, but if feels like it is of good quality. I doubt it's Lapua grade, but it feels better than Remington and Winchester to me when I work with it...

    Reloading for .45-70

My best results with the 45-70 have been with a max load (57 grains) of IMR 3031 and the 350 grain Hornady Round Nose. I am disappointed that Nosler dropped the wonderful Partition from its .45 caliber line-up.

Hodgdon vs IMR and data change???

Yes, it is very common. You'd be astounded if you compared Nosler's #4 manual to Nosler's #8. It's that way with all component manufacturers. In front of me I have a Ramshot loading pamphlet. The data in it is appreciably different from the data on Ramshot's website. There can be quite a...

    Thoughts on the 6.5 creed.

There's nothing magical about the Creedmoor. I suspect it's increasing popularity can be attributed to several things. First, folks like "new" stuff. The chambering remains fairly new. Initially the ammo made for it was primarily match grade ammo. The first guns made for it were generally...

Deal alert ..ruger american rifles $199 at walmart..

If your store has a RAR, it has been marked down. They need to scan the box in the back to get it to scan the correct price. They also had Marlin 1895s for $299 with a $50 rebate on top of that. One of those now graces my safe. They also had Marlin XT 17HMRs for $98 with a $25 rebate on top...

    Marlin 45-70 GBL at sportsman's

The Marlin 1895 that I just bought from Wal-Mart for $299 on closeout ($50 rebate on top of that) is on par with my old JM Marlins in terms of fit and finish. The action is smoother out of the box. I haven't taken it to the range yet. If it gives me close to the same accuracy of my old JM...

Use the Partitions. Smash a shoulder. They normally drop in their tracks. No tracking in the heavy woods!

Nosler Brass on Sale @ Cabela's

My Cabelas store keeps a good bit of Nosler Brass in stock in the most popular calibers. I wish they had it in 6.5 Creedmoor and 257 Roberts.
