I own 4 M77 rifles. A tang 257 UL, a Mk2 257 UL, a Hawkeye 30-06 UL and a Hawkeye Predator Creedmoor. The UL's are the best feeling rifles I have ever owned. Ergonomically, everything about them works for me. The triggers on the 257's are OK. Probably 6 pounds with no creep or take-up. The...
Nice. I like it quite a bit. Chambered in the Creedmoor too. I have 3 rifles with 20 inch barrels. 2 257 Roberts and one 30-06. The Roberts' aren't loud or obnoxious with muzzle blast. The 06 spits fire that you can see in bright daylight.
I started with Lee and liked it quite well. I tried RCBS because Lee wasn't generally held in high regard. I found I like Lee better. You can mix a little Lee with water in a small spray bottle and it works great. A little Lee goes a LONG way and works wet or dry.
I have two of the VX 3 rebates coming back in. when I get them I will have paid $203 for one VX3 4.5x14x40 and $224 for the other. They are my first VX3s and I am impressed so far. Mine are not CDS.
I am aware of the limitations and issues associated with nickel brass, but would still like to find some in 30-06. Anyone know where I might be able to score 50-100 pieces?
My go to load was 57 grains of 3031 pushing a Hornady 350 Round nose out of a Guide Gun. Even with a piddly 2X shotgun scope I shot 3/4 inch groups with boring consistency. I didn't have a chrono. My shoulder needs replacement surgery so I sold the gun. I wish I hadn't.
Bonz thank you for the well thought out post. I have already built 60 rounds using 125 grain bullets and the lightest published loads I could find for Varget, 3031 and Tac. If none of those make me happy I will be open to your idea.
I don't have access to a Hornady Manual and can't find one to download. I went ahead and built up some loads this morning based on the Quick Load data above.
I favor a high shoulder shot like that. It anchors them in their tracks more reliably than any other spot. I have looked at Nosler's ballistic tables. It'll get things done at any range I am comfortable shooting at. I think I am going to end up with starting velocities in the 2800 range.
I have encountered that info and as luck would have it 4895 is about the only moderately fast burning rifle powder I don't have. I hope I can work up a decent load with what I have. If not, 4895 will be the next powder I buy.
I picked up a Ruger Ulralight 30-06 last week at Cableas. It's a brand new Hawkeye with a 20" barrel. Got it for $435 and got a $50 gift card on top of that. So good a deal I couldn't pass it up! To illustrate how bad the gun buying addiction can get, I'll cut right to the punch line. I need...
42.5 grains of IMR 4350 driving a Hornady 129gr SST, COAL 2.795 gave me this 3 shot group at 100 yards. By my imprecise measurement it's .35 center to center. Two literally went through the same hole. I think I have a shooter and a load. I need to adjust my scope a bit. Still getting...
I am a very recreational loader and don't have a chrono. I ought to buy one though as I am interested in stretching things out with my new Creedmoor. I got into reloading to buy stuff that isn't commercially available, and never have pushed limits and didn't think I was with these loads. I am...
Ramshot moved the target on me. I have an older Ramshot loading pamphlet. It lists a max load of TAC in 223 (not 5.56) pushing a 60 grain bullet at 26.7 grains and a starting load at 25.4. I split the difference and built some loads with 26 grains using Remington 7 1/2 primers. I haven't...
