I was going to shoot 5 but after seeing that I decided to go for the 1000 yard target. My program miscalculated the drop. It called for 29.25 Minutes, I only needed 25.25. I had 2 hits which definitely made me happy.
I picked up my 300 Win Mag from the gunsmith on Monday. This is the one that was sticking cases in the chamber. I decided to have it re-barreled with a Lilja. I went 27" 4 groove 10 twist. Other stuff I had done; blue print action, Sako extractor, 8-40 Screws, bed recoil lug, & Cerakote.
I had...
The Hornady I have weighs 265 grains and the Nosler I have weighs 211 grains. So basically the two ends of the spectrum. I have Black Hills from several lots and it is all over the place, mostly close to FC (~255 grains). With Hornady, begin with the start charge.
Took it out to the range today to do some barrel break in. They have tedious process but I managed to get through the first part. I got it dialed to 100 yards and it shoots pretty well for a start level load. Recoil with the suppressor on wasn't too bad, kinda like a 270. I really like the CTK...
The price is definitely steep, but I feel like they earn it with the quality. Work got in the way of my range session today but I have some 175 grain Custom Competitions loaded up with RL22 to try out.
I was off to the big city this weekend and had a few hours by myself. I figured I better stop by the gunshops, not that I needed anything. Cabela's was a bust, a few interesting things but mainly overpriced for what it was. Scheels was much more intriguing. I was thinking about picking up a Sako...
I like mine too, wish I had waited until they came out with the threaded barrel but they are pretty fun. Very light and plenty accurate. The takedown system is pretty well designed.
I first handled one at LL Bean in Freeport 15 years ago. I really enjoyed the mechanical working of the BLR. They aren't all that popular around here, most people shoot long range and don't associate a lever gun with that. I happened to trade into one chambered in 7 Rem Mag a few years ago. It...
I have about 10 or so. 223, 22-250, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7/08, etc, all are great shooters. I have a few MKII rifles also and no disappointments there. The Hawkeyes have better triggers.
I really like the 210 ABLR. I've been able to get 3000 FPS with RL23. I currently have a factory Remington barrel and it's shooting into .3" groups. I have a #7 contour Lilja ordered to replace it.
I used the 208 ELD Match on a Pronghorn this year. Heart shot at 466 yards. It broke three ribs on the way in, destroyed the heart and lungs, and broke three ribs on the way out. I also used it on a decent sized Mule deer, heart shot at 670 yards. That one hit a rib on the way in and destroyed...
