The Timney triggers for Mausers are a great addition and fairly straight forward to install. I did mine without issue, so if I can do it... I did have one minor issue that I had to resolve. I had to use my dremel tool and remove additional wood from the stock, and also remove some metal from...
That's a great harvest. Thanks for sharing. I really do enjoy processing my own venison. Maybe enjoy isn't the right word, but when I'm done I know that I got the best meat out of the animal I could properly cared for, trimmed, and packaged in the freezer. It's satisfying work.
A small freezer might be cheaper than some of the new super coolers. Plug it in at night at the hotel. But if you are freezing the meat before leaving, you should be ok with most coolers. I like the idea of putting something under the coolers. Maybe buy a sheet of foam insulation out...
The Icons are nice guns from what I've seen, but have never owned one. I have two Tikkas, so you can guess my vote. I've never had a 25-06, but think that I'd like one very much. That's a good price on the Tikka. Let us know what you end up with. BN
I would think the 200gr Speers would do quite well at 338 Fed speeds too. Load them both up and test them out on some water jugs or hogs maybe and see how they hold up. Probably I'd go with the AB assuming you can get them to shoot well. But I wouldn't hesitate to use those heavy cup and core...
I'd move on to the Sierra and PT bullets and see how it does with those. If a gun won't shoot either Sierra or Nosler bullets well, that's when I know there might be some other problem with the gun. Good luck with it, hope it does better. BN
Nice shooting. I would say that bullet should work well for just about anything you want to go after.
Do you notice that the Hornady IB bullets prefer a jump to the lands similar to the Nosler AB's? I picked up some 154 gr IB for my 280 recently and haven't started playing with them yet. I...
I've sure had those days. Some days you just don't have the mental concentration to do it. Or the muzzle blasts from a neighboring bench are too distracting. I try not to let it bother me, but my range time is few and far between usually, so it can be frustrating especially if I'm trying to...
That looks like a great rig, glad you are liking it. While the current scope you have might not be ideal for long range shooting, I bet it will be more than adequate in the field. Can you get CDS dial for it? That might work once you settle on a load.
I have the same gun. You will love it. Load development was almost too easy in mine. Mine loves 165 BTs with 4064, varget, and BLC2 when I couldn't find other powders. Good luck.
My first deer rifle should've been a 30-06, but I wanted something a little different and got a .280. My next deer rifle was a Remington 7600 carbine 30-06. I thought it would make a handy deer drive gun, and it did. But it was a noisy, flame throwing, harder recoiling, poor trigger gun that...
Let us know how she likes it Guy. I have a buddy who is looking at guns for his girlfriend and that one is on the list. If I recall correctly, the Camilla has a shorter, 20", barrel doesn't it? Wish they wouldn't do that...
Very cool. Thanks for sharing your tour. Good luck in Cheyenne. I have family there and just North of there. Plenty of hunting and fishing opportunities within striking distance.
Really like the look of that HS stock Rodger. Glad you had a good first trip to the range. How does it compare to your Bell and Carlson on your Whelan, specifically, is it thinner through the wrist? I like my Medalist stock, but wish it were just a little slimmer all over.
3000+ fps with...
