I recently figured out, the hard way, that not all Nosler 280 Ackley brass is the same...
I suspect they may have tried to make their own at the SSA facility, but that's just a guess...
What is a fact, beyond any doubt, is that whoever made that batch didn't even come close to the quality of...
I use coyotes for target practice...
I set up where I can see a long way (300 to 1200 yards) and snipe them as they venture into the open river bottoms in the evenings.
I don't keep a close count but I average 30 - 40 per year doing that...I took 2 while deer hunting last week, I consider...
Wasn't even looking for a new truck....but I fell victim to the year end sales.
Noticed this truck sitting on the lot marked down $11,000.... pulled in for a closer look, and traded the Nissan Frontier Pro4X in on it.
It's a 2018 (still new) and they're starting to get 2020's in so they wanted...
The 41 got it done today...
125 yard shot, 210 grain A-Frame put him down and kept on going.

The M48 Custom is chugging right along doing what it does without any fuss.
Took a big ole doe at 550 yards today, my 12 year old son was on the trigger.... quartering away...bang, flop....160 grain Accubond entered about halfway back on the right side, exited in front of the shoulder on the...
I swore off Leupold optics for several years after one of their mid priced long range scopes turned out to be a disappointment.
But when I wanted a lightweight scope for the lever action carbine Leupold was the only real option.
I went with the VX3i 1.5-5x20....its still early in the game, but...
Barrel length...
You will still get a little more speed from a 20 inch barrel, but not much... and only using very slow powders (H110, Accurate 4100, Enforcer, W296, 300MP).
I like the carbine lengths but with the short barrel I had to put a scope on it because I couldn't focus on the front...
Having owned both old and new Marlins and now having a new Henry Big Boy steel carbine in 41 mag.... the Henry is better built than any of the Marlins, old or new.
It shoots great and there isn't a cosmetic blemish on it anywhere, the wood is very nice, and the action is smooth as silk.
I'm...
With 160's start at about 56.5 grains.
In a pinch you can use 7mm Remington Short Action Ultra Mag load data.... the case capacity for it and the 280 AI are similar.
I haven't loaded bullets lighter than 150 grains in the 280... but if I did, I think I'd use one of the 4350 powders.

To limit the range in populated areas is the reason.
I expect more and more states to adopt these rules as time goes on.
The reason the residents don't fight it is because they've fought to get it... some of these states were shotgun only before this.

Yeah that looks like the extractor isn't holding to me.... dropping it before the case clears the front of the ejection port.

Pull the bolt and see if the ejector plunger is stuck...its on the bolt face...it should push in with a fair amount of spring pressure.... shouldn't be stuck or weak.
Could just be debris in there... maybe a weak or broken spring under it.

Leupold is as good as they ever were... but the really good models are getting very expensive.
Hard to get into what I consider a quality optic for less than $500.

Off topic, but interesting...
In a direct comparison, the Leupold VX 3i 1.5-5x20 on the Henry is both clearer and brighter than the Zeiss HD5 3.5-14x42 on the 280 Ackley... the Zeiss is really good, but the Leupold glass is noticeably better in low light.

Seen some does just at daylight, couldn't see them good enough to tell which way they were standing though...to dark and too far away, 325 yards.
Ended up bringing the M48 280 Ackley instead of his 7mm-08...he's the operator though, I'm just here to satisfy the legal requirement, lol.
