When I had a 260 in an Encore pistol with 15" barrel, I was very fond of the 125gr Partition and 130gr Accubond, both over H4350. Puts a hurtin' on deer & hogs.
The 200gr Interlock RN in the .35 Remington is becoming one of my favorite bullets. I have these loaded over IMR3031, Hornady brass, CCI primer & crimped with the Lee FCD. I haven't chronoed this load but I'd guess around 2000 fps. It shoots into 1.5 inches or less in my Marlin 336. I put one...
Do you mean Lyman 429421? I've had good accuracy but wasn't super impressed with their performance on deer. Definitely worked but if I use them again, I'm going to try and put it through both shoulders.
Short barrels = muzzle flash. You may be able to reduce it with certain powders but you'd have to experiment a lot. I shoot several Encore pistols in rifle calibers and I just deal with it as a trade off for the short barrel. You could always get a suppressor, that would make a big difference😈
So far I've got a doe and this buck in SC. Doe was shot with Browning X Bolt 2 in 7mm PRC with 154gr Interbond. Pass through and went maybe 20-30 yards with good blood trail. Buck was shot with Tikka T3x Super Varmint in 6.5 PRC with 142 ABLR. Went straight down and recovered two bullets which...
Finally got some measurements on them. One on the left is 72 grains (1st shot) & the other one is 70 grains, so approximately 50% weight retention. They expanded to .476" and the other to .492" at its widest. I honestly thought they lost more weight than that. They did pretty damn good!
Awesome report! Those BLR's are pretty sweet. I've used the roundnose version of that bullet loaded in a .35 Rem in a Marlin. I shot a great buck last year at spitting distance and the bullet did an awesome job. Great blood trails and exits every time.
Took a buddy of mine hunting this AM with perfect conditions. It was 29 degrees (that's cold here!) when we got in the stand, the same one I shot my buck out of last week. We had a great wind and still morning. A couple minutes after 9 AM a single doe popped out in one of our shooting lanes at...
The only Accubond I've ever personally seen recovered from a whitetail was this 160gr from a 7 RM. 130 lb 8 pt shot almost straight on at 95 yards. Buck went 30 yards. Not sure of MV because it was a Winchester factory load my buddy was shooting but I bet less than 2900 from his 22" barrel...
Essentially if it's whitetail deer or larger, I'll use a premium bullet as long as I can push it fast enough for reliable expansion, though I haven't dabled in mono's much. I think they're too much for whitetails around my neck of the woods. Also, the smaller the diameter gets, the more emphasis...
