External ballistics tween the 2 bullets are so similar that I wouldn't use ballistics as criteria. I'd choose whichever bullet grouped the best, when loaded to "my hunting ammo" specs.

That's a fairly moderate load......using a powder that is somewhat faster burning than is optimum for that case capacity and bullet weight.
I'd guess a muzzle velocity somewhere in the neighborhood of 2650 fps. That's an estimate only........lots of things influence the velocity that you may...

When will next Nosler manual be available.
I followed the recipe in Nosler manual religiously, yet I am getting only 2975 fps, while the manual shows 3000 fps.

I'm using my favorite external ballistic software program called "Bullet Simulator" for these figures.
I assumed sea level, 59 degrees F, and scope centerline 1.5 inches above bore centerline.
The 150 gr. Partition has a BC of .456....3025fps
Software gives trajectories of 150 grain:

I've used the Nosler Partition in both 180 and 200 grain in my 30-06 for elk, and the 180 Partition for 2 Alaskan bull moose.
I've never recovered any of the 200 grain bullets for inspection and comparison. I've recovered a couple of the 180's.
The "kill power", in the field on these animals...

A velocity of 2850 cfps under the condition you describe might seem a little slow, yes. But there are so many variables that can affect results.
Double and triple check your powder scales and your chronograph. Were the chronograph screens set up the correct distance from muzzle?

I hunted Wyoming antelope. I used the 150 grain Ballistic Tip in my 30-06 for the first time. I was eager to see how it performed on antelope, but I made a wobbly shot, hit my quarry in the spine. Instant kill, but a spine shot doesnt tell one much about bullet performance.
I hunted in...
It does seem like the 6.5 x .284 chambering is mentioned often. To me, that's a bit curious, since at present that is a wildcat. Just when it seems that all possible bases have been covered..........another unfulfilled niche is discovered (maybe 'invented' is better word?).
I think maybe...
I'm a bit confused........are you asking about rifles, bore size, or cartridge?
Your "subject line" says 'rifles', but the content of message indicates a cartridge and/or bore size discussion.

Not sure what bullet diameter you're asking about......
I measured three of the .308" diameter Partitions......part # 16331...and got the following lengths:
1.260 inch
1.263
1.264

"Too Dead"?? that's funny! No, not too dead, I like to kill em' good and dead...my question deals more with over penetration/under expansion (pencil hole) or excessive meat damage with the 180 gr. PT.

Is there a website/URL where I can go and see a drawing of Nosler bullets, complete with dimensions?
I often want to know bullet overall length, length of bearing surface, dimension of boattail, etc.
Dimensions are important when working with seating depth or cartridge overall length, and...
