I went 60 grains of 7828ssc with the 140 Bal-tip and got 2940 or so, accuracy was good. It is over what nosler shows, I wish I could pressure test! This load came from Handloader magazine if I remember right.
I tried RL25 with 150 Hornady interlocks, shot good groups but was really slow. I don't remember what the speed was, but it was slow enough I never tried it again. It works really well in my 300 Wby though!
Well, just for the heck of it I tried some H1000 with 140 B-tips at 63 grains, cci250 primers. grouped under an inch at 100 and 2970 fps. I have found a use for my H1000 powder! Absolutely no pressure signs, but it does kick a little more than 130's. May not be any better than the other best 270...
The only reason I tried the H1000 is I have a couple of cans with no use for it. My rifle has a 22 inch barrel so it shouldn't shine with a slow powder like this, but 3050 is about what you will safely get with any powder. I will use it if my supply of H4831sc runs low and I have lots of magnum...
I just got done with accuracy and chronograph test with a model 700 Remington with a 22" barrel. First up was H4831sc with the 130 gr. B.T.(60 grains) and it grouped 4 into .680", then chrono'd at 3050 fps average. Next was the same bullet with 64 grains of H1000--- It shot 4 into .750" and...
My custom barrel started out with a short leade, but I quickly had it made to the Weatherby standard so it would take factory fodder if need be! Since it was a custom C. P. Donnaly barrel it was set to closer tolerance than factory. My son had a factory 300 Mark V at the same time and his gun...
In a custom chamber Mark V I had, rl-22 was the best powder with 80 grains in a 180 Partition doing 3170 fps and very small groups. My present 300 Wby is a model 70 and it likes RL-25, 87 grains with 180 AB is 3250 and .750" groups at 100. IMR 7828 ssc with TSX 168 grainers also puts in tiny...
I just found some once fired cases in the black hills ammo boxes, who makes their brass? I got 5 boxes that were marked Norma and the other 5 boxes are marked BHA!
Well I guess I did well getting those primers, I loaded 14 gr of 2400 and put the first 3 under 2 inches at 20 yards. For a 4" Ruger GP100 offhand, that's not bad for me! Went up to 14.5 grains and it still holding, no problems with these primers!
I normally use CCI but can't find any, but I do have 1000 of these Federal match primers. I've read some horror stories about these being way to soft and piercing even in relatively mild loads, anyone have any experience? Powder is Alliant 2400 with 158 XTP.
Am I the only one that has trouble with the search on this forum? It's way easier to just use a regular search engine such as Google just to find stuff in this forum!
When I had mine I used 8mm Mag brass that you can just run it thru the sizer and comes out with the Wby shoulder. Trim the length and load. Start lower and work up; 88 gr 7828ssc 225 grain Hornady @ 3120. Kicked like a mule but shot under an inch. My other load was 200 BT's with imr4350, they...
If you want to really see a difference in primer diameters try the Remington 9 1/2 's. In everything I have tried them in they feel loose! It doesn't seem to matter if they are seated with a press or with a hand seating tool. The Remingtons were bought when that's all I could get and I bought...
This stuff (H870) is what I used for many years in the 7MM RM with 175 grainers. Lots of elk bit the dust with both 160 and 175 loads. Mine bullets were the old dual core Speer Grand Slams at 80 gr for the 160 and 78 for the 175's. I still have a couple of jugs of the 870, marked at $4.50 a lb...
Her bull was a 5 point (sorry about the small picture). Her dad has a Tikka Lite that is just the right weight for a youngster, but it kicked too much with the standard 180 grain BT or AB so he loaded the 130's. She shot the bull at 250 plus yards off of shooting sticks, first shot ever at an...
For those using OneShot, you need to completely clean the die of other lube before using and then spray the inside of the die. I"ve used the O/S before it dries much and no stuck case as long as the die is free of other lube and it has been lubed with O/S. But since it was mentioned about O/S...
