I think the 77 gr factory load is hot! The primers are flattened and the case head is all beat up. I have to take a small file to it so it fits my shell holder. The brass with my handloads fares alot better, primers look normal and not as much damage to the head.
Anybody shooting one yet? My son may be getting one in the Ruger precision. My question is if we use 6.5 Lapua brass and neck it down will we need to turn it?. I'd rather not use the Hornady brass if I don't have to.
I'm thinking I'm not going to worry about it. I'm getting groups under an inch at 200 yds with 2 different loads. I'd just like to get brass back while hunting but probably won't.
Sorry, looking at my notes it was SR4759. With a Hornady 150sst(312 dia)I'm using up to 24.0 gs of powder with WLR primer. Never chrono'd it but it is easy on the shoulder and fairly accurate to boot.
Second time out with the AR Stoner 22 Nosler and all's working good with the new extractor(broke after 14 rds). I fired some w/o the brass catcher and it's ejection is about 1 o'clock. Is there any way to adjust this to about 3-4 o'clock? Heavier buffer maybe?
I have a 1942 Long Branch and an honest to goodness Jungle Carbine. They both shoot really good but can be hard on the shoulder. I have a reduced load with 4227 that's fun to shoot too.
I'm also starting out with the Stoner upper. I had 14 rounds through it when the extractor claw broke off and became a jam-o-matic. I was shooting the 77gr factory stuff. Not sure if it was the ammo or just a bad quality part. Robbed one from another AR but haven't got back out with it yet. Fired...
