    .38-56

Anyone had any experience with this one in a lever gun ? Bought one recently, on a modern JM Marlin 1895 action with a 25" McGowen barrel. Load data isn't exactly plentiful. Brass is formed from .40-65. Got a few rounds loaded, I'll try it Tuesday.

Who uses an ogive measurey thingy?

Interesting, been wondering about how many use comparator length. I use the Hornady, I like it. I have seen older Sierra bullets be different from newer ones, as to length from base to ogive.

    AR-10 loads for pigs

Anyone loading a DPMS .308 for pig hunting ? Seems like a Partition would be a good pig bullet. This rifle is uglier than it is accurate, and it's reasonably accurate with Federal Gold Match 168 gr HPBT ammo. Only a 16" barrel, but it looks like it will do an inch at 100, once I get over being...

    .41 Remington Mag

I've had good luck with 2400, AA#5, and Unique. Seems like I used another one, but I'm away from my bench, so can't see what's there. Had good luck with those XTPs, LaserCast, older Speer, Nosler, and Sierra bullets. It's a lot of fun to let the rifle barrels cool while trying to work on clay...

    how sensative is 7828ssc?

I'm not real wonderful at photos, but here's one

    Sako L61R, .25-06

Shot it yesterday and today, used 100 gr Sierra Pro Hunters over 4831, tried and true load for the other .25-06's. Went under an inch at 100 yards right off the bat, two slightly different OAL's. I'm in love. Lord, the work I've had to do with a few other rifles to get that. The trigger looks to...

    Sako L61R, .25-06

Just picked this up today, serial number says it was made between 1962 and 1973, haven't narrowed it down any more than that. Bolt face has the very slightest ring on it, can't be many rounds. Pulled it down to clean things, and it appears to have an adjustable trigger. Guess I'll go googling...

    25-06 and 90gr. Sierra HPBT.

I'll second that one, simple pain jane flat based bullet, it's worked well for me. Not "sexy" enough for some, I suppose, it just works.

7 mm Rem mag brass loose in Wilson brass holder

Hm, I'll sure do that, thanks for the advice. It was curious, the smaller diameter cases shot very well with one of the two loads I tried. I kept them in the ammo box, so I know which is which when I try the paper clip. I'm guessing it will feel like the sharpened point is dragging inside the...

7 mm Rem mag brass loose in Wilson brass holder

Hm, thanks for the last two posts, I'll look at the brass more carefully. I supposed I've been lucky so far. I did encounter some used Win brass for my .25-06's that split wide open. It felt really soft going thru the resizing die, I should have known better than to load it. After the second...

7 mm Rem mag brass loose in Wilson brass holder

I believe the Wilson is for fired brass, it's worked well for many sessions on several different brands of brass. It worked well on all the other 1x fired brass I've bought. I think I've been using it almost two years now. I'm thinking I got some fired in a rifle with a very tight chamber. I'll...

7 mm Rem mag brass loose in Wilson brass holder

I was working up some 1x Rem brass this afternoon, bought on gunbroker. I ran it thru a Lee resizing die, then went to trim to length. Some of it was small enough diameter at the base that the shell holder wouldn't grip it well enough to trim. I've been thru this with unfired .45-70 brass, and...

    25-06 Load Development

Do you have a comparator gauge ? Check the loads that shoot well, you'll probably see a consistent number, load the Partitions to that and play with charge weight. IMR 4831 has been my most consistent powder for 4 or 5 .25-06's, bu there's lots of folks using other and doing very well.

    Sometimes we overthink it...

Sorta reminds me of trying to get a super light weight bicycle back in the day, we'd do all sorts of tricks, but if we'd just eaten right, and less, we could have shaved a couple pounds off the engine in no time. I'm sure I'm the most variable variable when it comes to shooting. Every now and...

    Maybe coming back?

Anyone seen any AA#5 ? That's my favorite .41 mag powder.

How far off I-95 is it ? I drive up that way from time to time, I need a break aorund there.

    Federal Brass

Interesting that so many like Win brass, maybe I got some bad stuff, but it's by FAR the softest I've used in the .25-06. Neck tension, using the same Lee neck collet die, is way less with the Win brass than Rem or Fed or Nosler. On the other hand, in the 7 Rem Mag, the Win does fine. The only...

    25-06 running slow?

Tons of good advice here. My most consistent bullet thru several .25-06's has been the older model Sierra 100 gr flat base, 1620 is the Sierra number. For powder for accuracy for me it's been 4831. Good luck.

    45-70 and cast bullets?

I run the Laser Cast 350 gr over 25.6 gr of 2400, out of a Marlin 1895 SS, it does 1550 fps pretty consistently. I use polyester filler, which is a huge controversy in some circles. I see no problems with it. The fps readings are very consistent for me. Load shoots well in a Cowboy Ltd. V...
