Just wanted to share a thread at 24hourcampfire.com:

I was asking the question in a general sense. But by looking at what is on the shelves at the Pro Shop and Bivwak, there is a paucity of about everything but 30 cal 155g comp's and 7mm AB's.
Big game season is upon us. I have that barely covered. I know some of us don't. And, we want to...
Nosler-
I know your production people are busting a hump trying to meet demand. However, us reloaders would like to know IF there really is a light at the end of the tunnel. Please give us some general insight into your backlogs and forecasts?
Why? Because my wife says that if I'm not...
H1000, with a 160g bullet, works well in the 7mm RM (68-70 grains) usually when barrel length is 24 inches or better. Ditto with Retumbo.
#7 - Concerning a 180g bullet in th '06 AI, H1000 did not give me the speed that RL22 does.
1Shot-
I hope you like mush for deer meat. The 120g BT is very distructive when hitting anything above 2900 fps. Unless you are shooting at a distance where the bullet has a chance to slow down a bit or take only head/neck shots, I suggest a heavier bullet or a much better cconstructed one...
Take a look at Nosler #5 or #6 for the '06 AI. You'll see that the AI really shines with a 180 grain or heavier bullet.
I've got one with a 24 inch barrel that shoots the 180g Part's and AB's at 2950 fps with RL22.
Just FYI-
With a 1:8 3 groove, I've had Berger 140g VLD's self destruct at 3100 fps and 142g SMK's self destruct at 3300 fps. I know there are custom bullets for the caliber but my beer budget keeps getting in the way.
It's another reason for the need of a 6.5 mm 140g AB.
jtoews80-
What twist is your barrel? Just want to compare it with my 28 inch 1:8 for speed. I'm shooting a 142g SMK at 3250 fps with H50BMG, OAL 3.452 touching the lands.
There is little if any advantage over the '06 with the AI UNTIL you get to a 180 grain bullet or heavier. Check out Nosler Guides #5 and #6.
I perfer the AI over the 300 WM because I'm a recoil pansy. Any rifle recoil over about 21 foot pounds makes me develope a flinch. Therefore, the 180g...
Take a look at Nosler #5 and #6, the '06 AI really does not do much until you get to 180g or above. I too wanted a temp in-sensitive powder and tested H1000 and H4831 with 180g AB's and NP's, neither powder gave me the speed of RL22 and RL22 filled to the bottom of the bullet. My accuracy...
Old 7-
So, just how much are you going to "dent" those cases?
I'd use the "into the lands" method myself if reloading, alot of the energy will be going into the fire forming the brass. You will not have over pressure. Fire forming factory is not going to be a problem either. Then, there...
