    Wished for .358 Bullets

Thought I would break the 358 cal bullet out to its own post. 265gr LRAB for the whelen's and norma mag, for elk and moose sized game. 225gr Solid Base Bonded Spitzer shaped for the 358win and 350rem Designed for fast expantion on deer at 2400 fps MV. We have the PT for every thing else...

    2016 Bullet Wish List

Two 358 cal bullets, a flat or round nosed 200gr bonded for the 35rem. And a 215-225gr spitzer shaped bonded solid base for the 358win with deer in mind so make it very fast to expand. I really do not think this would take away from PT sales just offer a cheaper deer bullet. 358win and 350rems...

    Browning BLR 358 Win

Hornady says it has the same jacket thickness and core antimity as their 250gr spire point. So I bet it will not fail, but thats where I want a 225gr PT or at least the 220gr speer for more penitration. At 2480 fps I thought it lacked expansion on deer. I had two lung shot bucks that did not...

    Browning BLR 358 Win

Great rifle / cartridge combination you will love it. I have used both TAC and H4895 with both 225gr PT's & GK's to get 2430 fps in a 20.5 in barreled 700. With the 200gr Spire Points I used both H4895 and H322 with 2480 fps but stopped there for best accuracy. Have not used the 225gr PT on...

    How much brass is enough?

I shoot the 358win, 35rem, and 221rem which are seasonal run brass. I keep 300 or so on hand and reorder every year or so. Lapua just strated making 221rem brass, I picked up 200 of them so I have 400 new brass total. Hornady is making 358win brass as well so they are not as hard to find these...

A couple new tools can really make a difference

22 K-Hornet brass is fire formed, Thats too much work for just 100 fps for me. In the 22 hornet the lilgun is magic pushing a 40gr 200 -300 fps faster than any other powder and with less pressure than the other powders do at their lower velocity. Not sure how it works the 17 hornet but you...

A couple new tools can really make a difference

I like the T slots those would work really nice for multipule shot gun presses. What size nut fits them? Roter the slots than drop and screw the T slots in them? Like both the funnel and light. I had to make a drop tub from brake tube just to load the 22 hornet do to its thin case neck...

.30-30 lever action, who still hunts with one?

I am lucky and picked up 500 of the 200gr CLRN's before Midway ran out of stock some years ago. That load will do 2200 fps out of a 20" barrel and is amazing on stopping bucks. I think it is the best bullet for the 35rem. I have not tried them in my 358win yet. I have some 225gr PT's but have...

.30-30 lever action, who still hunts with one?

Well my lever rifle is a 336D so its a 35 rem, and wears a VX2-1-4 x20mm with Leupold std rings and mount in extra low. Its loaded to 2188 fps with a Rem 200 gr CLRN and works out to 200 yards very well. How ever its what I take when I am hunting thick cover and expect shots of 10 to 120 yards.

    Shotgun Advice

If you are going to step into the shotgun world think down the road. For what you want to do you need two types, a Semi-auto or Pump for water-fowle, turkey, deer, and varmits, a 12 gauge 3" is all you need. And a good O/U like a Berretta/Browning for upland hunting. concider a 20 gauge for...

    Anybody ever use Hawk bullets?

In flat point or older cartidges they fill a nitch. 300 sav, 35rem 348win etc. Other than the orifginal Rem 200gr CLRN the hawk 200gr .025" might be the next best bullet going for that cartridge. If it will break 2100fps it will be a dandy.

    Shoot rifles dirty!

Mine are stored clean, then zeroed before useing them for hunting perposes. Left fowled untill I am done useing the paticular rifle. Done using them could be one or two weeks or two months in the case of my varmit rifles. For storage I do a complete to the bore clean. If I am working up loads...

    SEATING DEPTH

In general you work up to max load with the longest OCL you determiend you could use by the distance from your bolt fact to the lands of your rifle less .010"-.020". This could be limited by the length of your rifles magazine. So the SAAMI max OCL just may be the longest you could use. The...

    Barrel Contours

I have a 700 in 221 rem being rebarreled by Pacnor as we speak, this was a limited run rifle bought used that never produced for me. I went with a factory contour just to keep it looking as it did form the factory. That remington factory contiour is used from .221 rem to .35 whelen. And the 35...

I am an official 35 Whelen owner!!!

I wanted to replace the factory plastic butt plate with a Pacmyer. I wonder if a 870 preground to fit recoil pad would work on the 7600? If any one knowns what will work without grindding please reply. I never really noticed with my 7600 whelen but have only put 200 &225gr ammo through it.

    222 Remington - IMR 4198 + 40 grainer

I looked for about 2 years for a 222 rem. Settled for a 700SPS in 223REM thinking if it did not shoot tight enough for me I would rebarrel it. It really shoots tight with a B&C medalist stock. Then saw a used 221Rem for a good price and am just now after about 2 years rebarreling it in 221rem.

    Rebarreling a 221 Fire Ball

I will let you guys know how it turns out. I had one custum 358win built by Shilen and was very happy with there work. I may have gone with them again but they where not taking in rifes to rebuild for about 18 mounts so thats why I looked else where. This is going to look like the same factory...

New Bell & Carlson Stock *PICS*

I put one on my 700SPS 223 REM and it turned a factory one incher in to a SMOA gun (at 100yards). I did have to slightly sand the thick paint off to inlet the barrel to free float it. Big difference once the paint piller was removed. I have only shot it out to 200 yards but can really see the...

    222 Remington - IMR 4198 + 40 grainer

Curious on how you ended up with a 20" 222 rem I would think 22"-24" would be classic barrel lengths. H322 is a classic 50gr bullet powder in the 222 so a 4198 powder should do real nice for the 40gr bullets. I use H4198 in my 221rem with 40-45gr bullets.

    Rebarreling a 221 Fire Ball

Just sent my 700LM 221 Rem to PAC-NOR to get a new super match barrel put on it. Standard SAAMI chamber, three groove 1:14, 24" factory contour in blue. This was a used gun I bought that never did better than about 1.25" with any load. Looks great on the outside. I could never just neck size...
