Just something to think about with an optical unit... skyscreens are much cheaper than a complete chronograph. No matter how careful we are it does happen. I've shot 2 so far. Oehler screens were $25 each about 30 years ago & are up to $45 this year.
The 308 Norma is pretty much an obsolete chambering these days. No warts on it, but it's just not real popular. If you find 30-338 data it is said to be somewhat interchangeable, at least the start loads. I looked at Hodgdon #27 which is the last real loading manual they put out before going to...
I dont know if you have Rural Kings out there, but they have mid sized chest freezers on special for $185, at least in VA & WV stores.
I saw a #3 RCBS shellholder bid up to $38 plus shipping on fleabay earlier today... still an hour or so left too.
Last week at the end of the day for chuckles we put a 3/8" steel spinner at 100 yds to see what would happen. I kind of expected the 22-250 to penetrate, but not the 338-200s.
The 22-250 Ackley was using the Hornady 53 gr HP Match @ 3950fps. Only one shot. The spalling, if that's the correct...
The guy is kind of a dick at first but here's a response, finally, from the horse's... mouth.

Less attitude, same story.

Your 2.6 gr increase sounds kinda small to me. Where did that # come from? My 30-06 Ackley capacity grew by 8 to 10 gr of water on rough average across 3 different makes of brass. Nothing marginal about that.
Some cartridges gain more from the 'Improvement" in a strong bolt action. The...
I have, & like, both. One a 700 Classic, the other a Stainless Stalker for bad weather. Factory ammo for the Whelen, not for 338-06 anymore. There is a bigger bullet selection for the 338, but I'm unsure if it really matters. Get both. Or if you really only can have just one, flip a coin?
I'll pile on too... When changing anything, I usually drop back a few grains & work back upward looking at accuracy & velocity. I've never noticed a pressure spike, but the mag primers often change a known load's accuracy fairly noticeably while affecting velocity a bit as well... same as a...
Hi Nimrod,
Good deal about cleaning the can, man. Straight wall pistol brass loaded normally should last a long time until the necks split. I have some 44 Special brass that's been loaded 17 or 18 times... trimmed once. Likely you'll need to bell the case mouths a wee bit more for the cast...
Howdy Nimrod, Have you considered using 44 Special with cast 200s for the mild recoil loads rather than downloading 44 Mag? Graf's has some Special brass in stock as I type. I dunno much about HS-6, but good old Unique (c.8 to 8.5gr) works well in Special with the 200s... if you can find some...
This is almost apples & oranges as I think if you play with OAL your 280 may come around, but I have a 358 Winchester that wants absolutely nothing to do with 200gr Accubonds. The long sleek nose kinda screws things up in a short action. Even single loading with a longer OAL is not good. After...
Like Cleveland said, if you have some RL16, it may do better than 4350 with 120 BTs. I settled on 45 gr in Horny brass at just under 3000fps. Good accuracy with good speed in my rifle. No after action report, but it should be fine.
I have used 4895 along with 3031 & 4064 in 243 with good accuracy, but only with 70 to 85 gr bullets. This was before owning a chronograph so speeds are unknown. It may shoot very well with 100 grainers as long as you aren't after top velocity.
FWIW... With 100 gr bullets, Hodgdon #25 lists...
Gunner, I dunno about BL-C2. It's around the right burn rate. Tried it in a few things decades ago. Unsure if it's temp sensitive or just quirky, but results weren't very memorable in anything. It's a nasty old dirty powder that left my barrels terribly fouled with some sort of hard carbonlike...
