Testing rifles on range does give an idea where and how you & your gun `connect`..
Thanks for sharing your results. The power of the .338Lapua is awesome. 300grain@ +2900 ft/sec is close to .378Wea force.
I hope you get one. It´s becomming rare. I picked up my Mauser 66 for €950 including 140pcs of new RWS brass, RCBS dieset, and 100 Nosler Par.
Here is one:

Something slow and vintage?..Find a Mauser 98 in 9x57. They can be picked up for a fairly cheap money...especially if it´s not a true Commercial Oberndorf Mauser. They shoot a .356" bullets but any .357-358" bullets works perfectly. The original 9x57Mauser shot a 281grain long flatnosed bullet.
I did a few experimental shots with my .577/500 using a Degol .435grainbullet made for the .500 Linebaugh. Here two cartridges. One with the short fat Degol bullet and a one with a 440grain Woodleigh bullet. The cheaper Degol bullets proved not be very succesful. Shot too high and very difficult...
My friend Leo & I went some funshooting here yesterday in his plantation where he had set up a little range.
Here is my Mauser 66 from 1969 in 6,5x68S. I did a velocitytest first with a new first load.
68grain Norma MRP + 125grain Nosler Par. Vo= 990 m/sec(3247 ft/sec). I later did some...
I look forward to see the 6,5wby results. I would love to have one of these. I would however load mine with 110-120grain bullets only. The game I would hunt weighs less than 80ibs and 70grain @ 2600 ft/sec would do fine. Such a caliber as the 6,5/300wby is for small game for + 500yards. Set the...
Me too!.
Have you ever read `A rifleman went to war`(1935) by Herbert McBride?..
Many years ago I bought the book called `The Ross rifle story`(1984) by Phillips, Dupuis & Chadwick. A must-have-book for anyone who are into Pre WW1 gunhistory and Ross rifles.
Nice short rifle for the woodsman. Very rare caliber. Never seen/heard of a Mauser model 66 in that caliber before(normally it is the Remington 66 Mohawk it is found). The seller does ship international in case anyone might be interested.

Well. In general once a double is regulated and solded up it stayes regulated using the same kind of ammunition is was regulated with. There are exceptions to that rule but if the regulation is done correct you can be lucky to find a doublerifle from 1880s that will regulate perfect as it left...
Jamila:
The Drilling for me has always for me been a pretty weapon, but I have never had much use for one either. Too clumsy for my use.
Like you I have also got myself a doublerifle. A hammerless George Gibbs originally in .450Nitro 3,25". The gun was rechambered(resleeved) by Rigby sometime...
Hi GM.
Congratulations with din Danske Remington riffel(your Danish Remington rifle).
I guess you have already run into the tiny problems with using .45-70 Brass.
Yes the 11,7mm is a heeled hollowbased bullet a la .22Lr princible. The extrator must be milled to take a thicker rim if using...
Thanks for sharing Elmer.
I have had a few M1903s over the years but they always ended up selling to someone who slept on my doorstep till they got. After seeing yours I have decided next time I´ll stump into a nice one i will add it to the collection.
Them 1903s in either stutzen(carbine)...
Ditto.
I just used 61grain MRP. That load if I remember push the 180grain into 840 m/sec(2755 ft/sec).
It´s been over 20 years ago since I reloaded for a .30-06. I actually miss that cartridge... :(
Sharp looking rifle!. As mentioned...the 9,3x62 is a very efficient cartridge. Getting one can result that many rifles in the safe gets unemployed...:-)
