Wow, I just read some on those parakeets, they're on the list in 7 states for agricultural pest. Outlawed ownership in some countries.
I was wondering if they're outing native songbirds. Might be time to get a nice pellet rifle.
What kind of Jay's are those, Stellers Jay maybe?. I have always lived east of the Mississippi. We have blue Jay's but they are white blue and some black.
The only ABLR I've ever tried is 150gr in a 270wby. If anyone is familiar with weatherby chambers, 270wby freebore is. 378" . They shot well under moa, mostly 5 shot at 200 yards from a hunting bag around .6 moa.
I seated them very long.
I calculate they were still jumping about .120 to 140 off...
Went out in -4° temps to sight in my scope with H1000 and 185 Juggernaut.
Needless to say, this load is a little too warm. Going to back down a few grains.
I have several barrels worth of n570. I'm a fan.
I use n570 for 27 Nosler and 150gr Ballistic tips, and in 300 RUM with 230gr OTM. Outstanding velocity and accuracy.
200yards from a hunting bag.
Might have to try it in this barrel.
Winchester also makes StaBall Match that is comparable to Varget. That would get my vote.
If I had a custom throated 308 win for 200gr bullets I'd definitely try 6.5 StaBall. It's closer burn rate to imr4831 than H4350. Pretty slow. Hodgdon data gives it top velocity in 300WSM.
That said, it...
my othe 30 N load is Reloder25 with 200gr Hybrids.
I'm considering H1000, 7977, Rl25, rl26, maybe 7828, n656, n570 or Retumbo .
Maybe @DrMike could run quickload data?
30 nosler, 26 barrel
Case water capacity 101.4 gr water.
185 Berger vld hunting at 3.461"
185 Berger Hybrid target at 3.530"...
Doe anyone have experience loading 185gr vld or 180bt?
My other 30Nosler is a 9twist and have only shot 200gr and heavier bullets.
My new build is a 26" 10twist so I'm going for 195gr to 180gr bullets?
I'm loading Nosler brass if it matters.
Thanks.
I have had a nagging suspicion since 2020 that this incredable reloading inflation is partially because of the amount of new reloaders.
I've been sitting pretty since Obama taught me to buy in good times. But new reloaders post 2020 really have no idea what primers and powders are supposed to...
I have had/ have three 300wsm barrels. The one thing I've definitively learned is Standard rifle primers produce better precision than magnum primers in this cartridge ( same for 6.5, 270, 7mm wsm).
My current 26" 300wsm has two great loads.
180gr Elite Hunters and Reloder 16.
180gr Ballistic...
Damn right.
I set it up a few inches in front of the brake per instructions the first malfunction... jarred the freaking guts loose.
That RUM might cut it in half even with the brake, lol.
My labradar got destroyed on its second range trip... 300 RUM 230gr N570 and a big brake! Got repaired and have used it every range trip for the last 6yrs. It's read about 97% of all shots. The bluetooth app is unusable.
I really like it to calculate the actual BC instead of relying on listed...
The throat after fire lapping obviously lengthens measurably, ask yourself what dimensional changes happen to the bore diameter. .284 bore fire lapped to remove fire cracking might be .285 or more.
Just a thought.
