I would never suggest anyone disregard safety. I don’t want to see anyone injured. A BTO measurement gives a more precise point of reference for a given load. OAL specs in a reloading manual can get someone in trouble if taken as an absolute. Some sort of BTO measurement is needed.
As an...
The ogive is located at different locations on different bullets even though they may be the same weight. Different design bullets, even from the same manufacturer will have different base to ogive lengths. That’s why I think the Hornady comparator is almost a necessity.
Couldn’t find a modified 270 WSM case for the Hornady Comparator so I made one. Tapped a 5/16x36 hole in the base and drilled the neck with a 7.1mm bit. Viola! Instant OAL gauge.
I’ve used RL7, either 4198, and H4895. I like the 4198’s more than RL7.
Edit: IMR 4895 would probably work as well as H4895. For cast 308 Win loads you can use IMR4831 with 200+ grain bullets. Seat them touching the lands to help get a complete burn.
I’m going to start the process tomorrow to get my cataracts resolved hopefully. My question, is there a distance of clarity that you tell your Optometrist you are looking for to shoot shotgun clays and upland birds, along with scoped rifle shooting. I’ve heard that long range acuity is what you...
Ernie, it truly amazes me what you can do with recoil reduction and long range accuracy. Outstanding! Thanks for the video.
I have to say my first choice would be the 35 Whelen. I’ve never owned one but when it comes to doing everything I think it would be hard to beat. As far as my favorite...
Yeah not the greatest here either. However they can’t even tell me “no” if I don’t put in for it. It would be one heck of a way to break in that new Featherweight. Think positive.
Got mine in. Firearms cow and bull. Anyone in the OH, WV, VA region like me may want to apply today. Cost is $10 for each tag, cow or bull. I should say that’s the cost of each draw. Tag is paid for after drawing.
I use it in 7mm RM with 140gr E-Tips, and 270 Win with 130gr Partitions. I don’t pay too much attention to temp stability, but it’s very consistent for what I use it in. I’d like to try it in the 270 WSM I recently acquired but have started with other powders.
I’ll stand pat for the time being. The only one I’d invest in would be RL23. It’s an amazingly consistent powder. In my opinion it’s head and shoulders above anything in its class. I still have 9lbs but it will be a sad day when it’s used up.
I’d love to have an old Winchester Model 100 in 284 Win. I love the lines of it and it’s a great auto loader woods rifle. I had a 308 as my first deer rifle. I got 3 deer with that rifle. I was young and knew everything, and saw more white flags than standing deer.
I have 3 ladders loaded for...
First, I got brass! I’ll be loading this afternoon once I prep the brass.
I watch your posts and they always interest, and amaze me at the ranges you connect on. I really like your center grip handguns. I may start looking for a XP. Is there anything to look for with the bolt actions that is...
