I'll take a 338/300g SMK for deer and elk anyday, same with a 7mm 162amax/180g eldm for that matter. They work great at longer ranges when velocity has slowed down a bit.
There's nothing wrong with using heavy for caliber target bullets on game as long as a guy knows what he's doing with...
I have a few 7mm/338 bullets I'd like to try and move. Add $5 shipped for USPS small flat rate box. PayPal friends and family preferred. Thanks for looking!
7mm
1. Speer 115g HPs (100 ct) $25
3. Hornady 162g ELDX (32) $15
5. Berger 195g EOL (100) $80
6. Sierra 197g HPBT Matchkings (200) $140...
Have a special request on this one. Typically the 222 isn't loaded to the same pressures of a 223, and I believe the 223 case is based off the 222, so if they were both shot out of a good bolt like say a Rem 700, there should be no reason as to why you can't bump the 222 up to 223 pressures...
Looks like a good time Jim!
Still waiting for my CZ at the smiths to get the Bartlein barrel and new stock bedded. Then I'll mount up the Area419 30 MOA base and Vortex 5-25x Venom. Have some SK standard, Norma Tac X, CCI SV, and Federal Target to try for mid tier ammo. Hoping to get some 400...
Thank you so much Dr Mike!
6 creed is pretty impressive with a 28" tube
Anyway you could do 2 more for me??! Promise that's it for awhile lol.
Be the same 87 vmax and 108 eldm, 28" tube, only this time in a 240 weatherby, max pressure, all powders.
Trying to decide between the 2 for a new...
Can someone please run a QL for the 6 CM, 28" bbl, 87g vmax and 108g ELDM, Max pressure and all powders please?!
Curious to see what the little 6 creed can do with a 28" tube and a case full of slow burning powder...
Going to buy a Bartlein 29" 7.5 twist. Just haven't fully decided if I'll...
Sweet rifle! That will definitely get the job done! My elk rifle wears an A5 and an 8-25x scope. Its geared more towards the LR side of things as well, but I still dont feel handicapped with a 50 yard shot either, which is highly unlikely where I hunt anyway. To each their own!
Songdog- All very valid points! I can try the hornady 105g HPBT Match as well, it might have a little thicker jacket than the 108 ELDM, plus I already have a good little stash of them around 500, and they dont give up anything BC wise.
I also have 1,000 of the 87g VMAX as that's what bullet I...
I'm not looking to save money here. Looking for the ultimate coyote rifle, and the 6mm/240 108 eldm at 3400fps still outdoes the 22 cal 75 eldm at 3400-3450. The hot 22 cals would potentially run into the same issues at 3400fps with the 8 twists dusting jackets as well spinning them at 310K...
I sure liked the 338 EDGE I had built 10 years ago...Shot 300g SMKs at 2825-2840fps at 3/8 MOA. Cant go wrong with any big 338, doesnt matter what it's called, they're all hammers. I'd go for another 338 EDGE or 338 RUM for a dedicated LR elk/bear rifle with the heavy bullets.
Yah I used those 105s at 3250-3300fps out of my 10 twist 240 and it did great until it got cold haha. Went from 1/2" groups at 200 yards in 80 degrees, to 5" groups at 25 degrees. Just not enough twist with the 10. Its borderline stable...
Not much difference in BC with the 105 HPBT or 108...
Looks like the little 6 creed is pretty doable at 3200fps and some change with the 108s with a few powders. Not really the powders I prefer to use, but it does it.
I'm looking more at the temp stable line of powders and it's more in the 3150 range
