Cool to see.
Yes...looks hungry...
Adolescent that hasn't yet learned enough to be as successful as they need to keep weight on...or a nursing female?
Best keep the pets inside! And the kids/grandkids close.
Tikka has a good reputation for accuracy. No questioning that.
But as with any rifle, there is no guarantees as to what the particular rifle is going to like in terms of the ammunition, whether it be factory or handloaded.
Trial and error there to find the best combination for the rifle.
Many...
This will depend on the individual rifle, as to which IS more accurate. I have some very accurate rifles with both types of stocks.
The potential for accuracy probably lies with the synthetic stock as it will be potentially more stable regardless of the ambient weather conditions e.g., wet...
FOTIS,
Well, I did shoot the factory Nosler 140 gr AccuBond ammo in the two rifles and can provide an answer as to what I found in my 20" barreled mannlicher stocked rifle vs the 24" barreled single shot rifle:
20" barrel produced 2353 fps, where the 24" barrel produced 2419 fps with this ammo...
If I recall correctly, they average a deer a week...
But cougars are known for going on killing sprees...as some sheep farmers can attest to.
Makes one wonder if that occurs on wild prey too...but as they are not usually in pens probably doesn't occur as frequently...
Gerry, probably a good thing there is no cell service where you wanted to set your trail cams; we cannot use the ones equipped for cell service here in BC. (unless they have changed the regs)
A friend used to own a Tikka laminated in 338 Federal that was a lot of fun to shoot. (Was my introduction to the 338 Federal.) Too bad they didn't build that left handed, or I would have had one! Have to admit that I have preferred shooting the T3's with wooden or laminated stocks a lot more...
While not a handload, and not the 140 gr AccuBond, I will say that I did try the Nosler 142 gr ABLR factory ammo in my 6.5 PRC yesterday and was happy with the first test results!:D
It produced 2921 fps from the 24" Wilson carbon fibre barrel (21 fs over spec), and a 3 shot group of 0.680" at...
I too am fond of the Marlin lever actions.
I shot my first big game animal with my grandfather's 336 when I was 15 (whitetail doe).
I currently have a Model 375S which I have had for 29 years now...love the 375 Win! Every black bear and moose has thumped the ground at the shot! "Thumper" also...
Well, I got out to the range today and got to shoot the new Low Wall, and the Steyr Mannlicher Model M SE FS, both in 6.5x55.
I tried the Nosler 140 gr AccuBond ammo in both.
The spec on this ammo is for 2650 fps.
In the 20" barreled Steyr, I got 2353 fps and 1.535" group at 100 yards. The ES...
While I do not know that I fit the definition of a gentleman, I do try!
And I don't think one must be a gentleman to own a fine rifle...just shoot it and take good care that it always functions reliably! And then enjoy it!
A well used rifle, kept in good repair, is an appreciated tool!(y)...
The data I wrote down from QuickLoad for the 140 gr AB in my 24" barreled 6.5 PRC and max 65,000 psi showed the following for two powders I have on hand:
Re-26: max @ 58.3 gr for 3090 fps
Magpro: max @ 60.6 gr for 3082 fps
Sorry, I did not specify a COAL or primer in my search.
I have not yet...
